The Uadwalawe National Park which was closed down for security reasons will be reopened for visitors from 1st of March, Environment and Natural Resources Minister, Champika Ranawake told media.

The Park will be kept open only during the day time from 6.30 am to 5 pm, according to a decision taken by the ministry.

The Ministry also has introduced a new set of guidelines for both local and foreign visitors entering the park. Accordingly the visitors are requested to prove their identity on arrival with the National Identity Card or Passport.

Carrying liquor into the park and smoking inside the park is strictly prohibited.

The public is also requested to avoid taking polythene and non degradable materials into the park and offenders will be subjected to a minimum fine of Rs.5000.

Commending on tourist arrivals to the recently opened Yala National Park, Minister Ranawaka said that the income earned in the first month of this year has exceeded the monthly income average of the park in 2007 with a reported collection of Rs.4, 330,887 in January this year.
