A man has been charged with murder after a woman died in Cardiff on Thursday morning.
37-year-old Thisara Weragalage, of Pentwyn, has been charged with the murder of 32-year-old Nirodha Niwunhella on August 21st.
He has been remanded into custody and will appear at Cardiff Magistrates Court tomorrow (Saturday August 23rd).
South Wales Police named Niwunhellage Dona Nirodha Kalapni Niwunhella, who went by Nirodha, as the victim who was killed in the Riverside area.
Paramedics also attended the incident, and despite their best efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene, the force said.
Her family said: "We remember Nirodha as a cherished daughter, family member and dear friend to many. Nirodha will be forever remembered with peace, love and gratitude.
"She touched many lives with her kindness and warmth and her memory will continue to inspire us. Though her life ended too soon, the love she shared will always remain with us.
"Rest in peace angel."
Police were called to South Morgan Place just after 7:30 on Thursday morning.
A 37-year-old man, who was known to Nirodha, was arrested in connection shortly after on Seawall Road, in Splott.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the police, with the force especially keen to hear from people who were travelling in the area including Wellington Street, Clare Road, Penarth Road, and East Tyndall Street, during the relevant time.
