UK visa applications via Chennai from June 9
The British Embassy in Colombo will begin phasing out its visa application process to Chennai from Monday, the Embassy said in a statement.
It also said UK visa applications which include any supporting documents must now provide clear A4 sized photocopies from Monday, while all supporting documents must be translated into English.
“From June 9, 2008 a phased transfer of some visa application processes to the British Deputy High Commission in Chennai will begin. All visa applications will continue to be made at the UK Visa Application Centre, 367 R A De Mel Mawatha (Duplication Road), Colombo. This change will not alter the cost of a UK visa or the level of service we provide” it said.
Visa application forms and photocopies of applicant's personal documents will be sent by secure courier to Chennai. The UK Border Agency is responsible for transporting the applications and supporting documents safely. Passports and original documents will remain at the British High Commission in Colombo, they will not be sent to Chennai.
All visa applicants, except for those applying to settle in the UK, should allow between 5 - 15 working days from the date of submission of their visa application before collecting their visa decision.
