No not at all unfair ! This is not a contest to select the cutest girl ok? This is to select a singer who can sing well as well as a person who has real star quality. Wathsala has star quality but did not sing the song well enough. "Ammawarune " is a song for which Nanda Malini won several awards. People always compare with the original. How can anyone match the genious of Nanada Malini, in a high quality song as this? Wathsala's tempo was completely out. No doubt she has great talent, but she selected the wrong song.
As for selecting the real super star, I only hope that Sri Lankans will use thier heads & not vote only with their hearts. A super star must have a very attractive voice, sing with good voice control, keep the audience spell bound, do justice to the original, performance on stage must thrill the viewers, & also needs to have some good looks as well. But we as a country have proved to the world that when we are given the democratic right to vote, we vote for the powerful, we vote for our friends & relations, we vote for a party for which our parents have voted over the decades, we are even ready to vote for any joker who promises the impossible ! Thanks to the stupidity of our people, we have an abundance of jokers in our Parliament ! So let us hope, being a joker ( knowingly or otherwise ) is not the only qualification to be a super star.
We also hear that Nadini works for Dialog & is heavily canvassed by the Co. No wonder mobitel users are debarred from voting ! If this is the way sss goes I will stop watching it, even though I have been an ardent fan. It is common ethics that people should not take part in any matter where they have a vested interest. Shame on sirasa if this is the truth !
