U.S. President Barack Obama has hailed Nelson Mandela as a personal inspiration while on a visit to South Africa. Mr Obama declined to visit Mr Mandela due to the former South African president's poor health. A White House statement explained: "Out of deference to Nelson Mandela's peace and comfort and the family's wishes, [the Obamas] will not be visiting the hospital." Obama made it clear to reporters on Air Force One that he had no intention of putting Mr Mandela's health any further at risk, saying: "I don't need a photo op….The last thing I want to do is to be in any way obtrusive at a time when the family is concerned about Nelson Mandela's condition."

While flying to South Africa, Obama told reporters: "The main message we'll want to deliver…is simply a profound gratitude for his leadership all these years, and that the thoughts and prayers of the American people are with him and his family and his country." Obama later told university students in Pretoria to learn lessons from Mandela's strength while he was in prison for 27 years. He said: "Think about the hardships and the struggles and being away from family and friends. There were dark moments that tested his faith in humanity, but he refused to give up."

Kate Middleton isn't due to give birth until mid-July, but should the Duchess of Cambridge go into labor early, the press is ready to go.
Media outlets from all over the world have already started setting up camp outside St. Mary's Hospital in London, where Middleton, 31, is expected to give birth.
It's been over 30 years since England’s seen the birth of a future monarch, so it should come as no surprise the frenzy has already begun. Making it more of a can't-miss moment, it's also expected that Middleton and Prince William will introduce their child the same way his parents, the late Princess Diana and Prince Charles, did.

Back in 1982, they gave world its first glimpse of the future king by walking out in front of the hospital to meet the press. (They did the same thing with Prince Harry in 1984.)
So yeah … to say these photogs are currently setting up shop for the money shot is an understatement! But they could be waiting a long time. There are designated spots reserved outside the hospital for the "event," but the date in which it is supposed to take place spans from July 1 to July 31.
As for Middleton's exact due date, that has remained a mystery. Us Weekly claims it's July 11, the Daily Mail reports it's July 13, and U.K.'s Telegraph said Middleton's mother has been telling friends her grandchild will be a Leo. (That would mean Prince William's wife would have to give birth after July 22).
"We have said July and the Duchess said mid-July," a spokesperson for Kensington Palace told Yahoo! Shine on Wednesday. "The media decided it was July 13. We never confirmed an exact date."
However, Middleton is prepared if her daughter or son were to come early because as she said in April, "babies have their own agenda."
Most recently, Middleton skipped a friend's wedding about 300 miles outside of London for fear of early labor. Prince William still attended, as he served as best man.
It's safe to say Royal Baby Watch has officially begun.
