1. Samsung Galaxy Nexus+ Concept and a New Design for Android 5.0 (Jelly Bean) UI

Samsung_Galaxy_Nexus+_concept_1.png

After yesterday’s showcasing of the Motorola Nexus RAZR concept, we have another Android 5.0 phone on our hands. This Jelly Bean device has been created by Hasan Kaymak and goes by te name Samsung Galaxy Nexus+. The device features a 4.5 inch Full HD display and a quad core processor.
There’s also an 8 megapixel camera on board, Google Voice+, a feature that’s just like Siri (or even better) and some extra UI functions. For example, the designer imagined an editable Status Bar, Dock (color, style, icons) and also a tweakable Menu style. From what I can see, the design is not totally different from the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, since it’s a Plus model afer all, like the Galaxy S II Plus and Galaxy S Plus. This means that it only adds a minor improvement or two.

In this case the improvement is particularly the CPU and mainly the camera, something that people complained about on the original Galaxy Nexus, that only had a 5Mp sensor. Android 5.0 Jelly Bean looks nice and keeps very much of the Android 4.0 design styling, so I can’t really figure out any design additions. The back button looks a bit modified, unless I’m mistaking…

2.Motorola Nexus RAZR Runs Android 5.0 (Jelly Bean), Is Only 7mm Thin

Motorola_Nexus_RAZR.jpg

After the craziness of the Motorola Atrix 3 handset, that’s all over the web because of Concept Phones, we have another exciting device to look at. This one is the Motorola Nexus RAZR, the supposed next Nexus handset, of course in mere concept phase. Shaik Imaduddin created this beautiful design, that’s based on his own version of Android 5.0 Jelly Bean.

This Motorola concept uses a quad core Tegra 3 processor, although I doubt that in real life Motorola would select Nvidia instead of Texas Instruments for its CPU. The Motorola Nexus RAZR is only 7mm in thickness, has a 5 inch display and 16 megapixel camera. The fourth Nexus phone rendered here is a tad big for my liking, since I’m more a fan of 4.2 inch or 4.3 inch smartphones, but it’s still a pretty interesting device. The new Android is not a great departure from Ice Cream Sandwich, as you can see.

Considering Google bought Motorola last year, it would be a logical move for the search engine giant to make its own phone using the just bought company. Considering RAZR was the most original design approach from Moto lately, a combo between this look and the one of the Galaxy Nexus would be perfect. What do you think?

3.Sony Xperia Eterion: Take 3

Xperia_Eterion_3.jpg

The Sony Xperia Eterion smartphone has been pictured before on our website and now it’s ready to make the third appearance. Designed by Frank Tobias, this smartphone adopts a rectangular design and reminds me of the Xperia S and Xperia Ion devices, particularly through that dotted area at the bottom, that somehow replaces the notification area on the Xperia S and its lighting.

This flagship Sony Xperia comes with a 4.5 inch Full HD display with a 720p resolution and 4 buttons at the bottom. These are capacitive buttons with symbols that appear each time you need them. There’s a 16 megapixel camera at the back and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich as the OS here, plus 16GB of storage and up to 128GB of extra memory. The CPU of choice here is a quad core unit with 1.4GHz frequency, accompanied by 2 GB RAM. I wonder what kind of customization ICS will suffer…

Maybe the MediaScape and TimeScape have evolved into something greater and more modern this time. Or maybe Sony decided to customize everything, from icons to widgets and phone functions. Anything goes, since this is an Xperia concept after all.

4.HTC Dark Runs Android 5.0 Jelly Bean, Has Nifty Blue LED Notification

My wish came true! I posted on the Concept Phones Facebook Page a challenge for designers to try and imagine the way Android 5.0 Jelly Bean will look and already there’s an idea. Hasan Kaymak imagined the HTC Dark concept phone, a quad core phone with the future Android on it. This device relies on a Qualcomm S4 quad core processor at 1.7 GHz.

HTC Dark also uses a full HD display with the LG Nova technology, a 4.7 inch diagonal and Gorilla Glass 2 protection. Sense UI 5.0 is also on board, with some nifty blue-ish hues and a blue LED notification system. We also get Bluetooth 4.0, LTE, WiFi (60Ghz) and wireless charging. Powering this HTC concept there’s a 2500 mAh Li-Ion battery. There’s also a camera at the back which the designer didn’t mention, but I imagine it’s a 12 megapixel or 8 megapixel unit with 1080p capture at 60 fps.

The interface of this Android 5.0 render is particularly clear and clean and the notification area looks very nice. This certainly is not your average Sense UI experience and as you can see, the four capacitive buttons are back, instead of the three in Android 4.0. I wonder if Google will do that, considering they’re preaching the use of 3 buttons instead of 4 now…

5.Windows Phone Ornella Should Teach Nokia Some Lessons

Windows_phone_Ornella_concept.png

The following smartphone concept is created by Deviantart user Sharkurban (Retovona Michael) and it looks like the perfect combo between an iPhone and the Zune. Well, maybe the back design is a bit too much like the iPad’s form factor, but the front is original and spectacular. The lack of true display edges makes me think of ClearBlack technology, so that’s why I said Nokia should pay attention.
Known as Ornella, this Windows Phone device seems to have a 3.8 to 4.2 inch display (I’m guessing) and it comes with the usual keys for WP use, but they seem to be touch ones. We have a camera at the back that looks like HTC material, if you analyze the design and we’ve also got 4G connectivity on this model, as shown on screen. I’m guessing that Windows Phone 8 Apollo runs on this handset and that there’s a dual core 1.5 GHz CPU inside. Once again, these are all my speculations.

Can’t really tell if there’s a front camera here, of it the designer can fit one onto the device… This phone tends to feel a bit too sleek and compact for the user’s hand, so one may feel like dropping it when swiping to the left and right in Metro UI. Do you fancy the Windows Phone Ornella concept?

6.Samsung Galaxy S III Yet Again… This Comes With HSPA+, 32GB of Storage, Tegra 3 CPU

Galaxy-SIII.jpg

I’m talking about the quad core processor Nvidia Tegra 3 aka Kal-El, available in a 1.3 GHz flavour on this smartphone. The Samsung Galaxy S III we have here also uses 1.5GB of RAM, a 4.65 inch Super AMOLED HD display with 326 ppi, an 8 megapixel 3D camera with Xenon flash and a case that measures 7.42mm. The device weighs 118 grams, uses a rubberized plastic body and a 1750 mAh battery. As far as memory goes, the new Galaxy S unit will rely on 32GB it will have no microSD card slot, it also brings HSPA+ or LTE, NFC, Bluetooth 3.0 and USB 3.0.

Induction charging is also supported, as the designer claims. Looking at this phone mockup, I imagine a combo between the Samsung Galaxy S II and the Galaxy Nexus and those Android 4.0 buttons under the display sure looks interesting. It’s a nice touch to keep the classic Home button of the Galaxy series and add the multitasking one and the Back button in capacitive form.

7. HTC One X

Tegra 3 quad-core processor

The Chinese company stated some time ago that 2012 will be a year where quality will reign over quantity. The specifications known about the One X show that HTC has so far made good on that promise. This thin device will, according to rumors, sport a 4.7-inch screen of high definition, an 8MP camera and a Tegra 3 quad-core CPU. There will supposedly be another cam, a 1.3MP this time. Various other rumors say that the operating system will be Android 4.0, memory will be 1 GB RAM and internal storage will be made of 32GB. NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi a/b/g/n have also been speculated to be on the list.
