According to press reports, a large demonstration is scheduled to be held Monday, February 27, 2012, in Colombo and other major cities in Sri Lanka. The protests are directed against the planned U.S.-supported United Nations Human Rights Council resolution concerning alleged human rights abuses made during Sri Lanka’s recent civil conflict.

Demonstrations could occur outside the U.S. Embassy and could continue after Monday. U.S. citizens should closely monitor local media for reports of protests and avoid coming to the U.S. Embassy when there is a protest in the area. If protests occur outside the Embassy, no one will be allowed onto the compound until the protesters have dispersed.
