so what does that mean. do they pay you based on BOC's dollar rate ? or the 'real rate' which is around 235- 240 LKR per USD ?

My understanding is they pay LKR based on a USD exchange rate but my question is does the employee actually loose money or do they get paid the same ?

In the case of a LKR appreciation, they probably have an agreement to pay 300K regardless (this is just an assumption).

Also, I think opting for USD pegged salary isn't mandatory. I read this is an optional benefit given to employees who believe LKR will depreciate.

They are not paying in USDs. Salaries are pegged to USDs. Thats it.

Yes, check for terms and conditions. (for scenarios like USD depreciations, your annual raises, your bonuses e.g.)
