Van ready for suicide bomb attack seized -first detection after LTTE defeat
(Lanka-e-News, August 11, 2009, 6.10PM) According to Army Media spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara , a Van with 20 claymore bombs weighing about 5 kilograms each was seized by the Police at Mannar. This is the first occasion since the war ended , a suicide bomb attack attempt was detected.
Police media spokesman , SSP Ranjith Gunasekera stated that the Hiace Van with the bombs was taken into custody at Uppukulam. Three suspects have been taken in for questioning , and are now being interrogated by the Colombo Crime division (CCD). Two of the suspects are residents from Galkissa while the other is a resident of Mannar.
