JVP MP Vjitha Herath denied that he was detained at the Vavuniya police station for questioning.

He also denied the claim made by the military spokesman that he was travelling with 20 army deserters.

Mr. Herath said he was travelling with polling agents of presidential candidate Channa Gamage but the troops at a Vavuniya checkpost prevented them from proceeding to Kilinochchi where the MP said irregularities were taking place.

He said that as a result their election work was delayed by three hours.
