The “Victory Day Parade” to mark the first anniversary of the conclusion of the war and the defeat of the LTTE will be held this Friday. The picture shows military personal taking part in rehearsals at Galle Face Green today.
They once rode against odds in the war arena to safeguard their motherland from terrorism. Today they ride in peace towards reconciliation while Navy personnel march past during the rehearsals for the Victory Day celebrations which were originally scheduled to be held last month and postponed due to bad weather conditions. Together to a man and woman, the Sri Lankan armed forces, police and the Civil Defence Forces contributed their mite to defeat the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) by killing its top leadership. Today, with the dawn of peace, they are engaged in another kind of war, lending their support in reconciliation and economic development of Sri Lanka.
