The authorities called on the general public to be vigilant and take adequate precautionary measures against lightning that will accompany heavy thunder showers through out most parts of the country.
A spokesperson with the Department of Meteorology said that more rains were expected throughout most parts of the country later today and tomorrow.
Meanwhile two persons were killed on the spot and three others injured after they were struck by lightning while working on a paddy field at Ranpathavila in the Kahatagasdigiliya police area.
The victims were identified as S. Abeyratne 36 and K. Ratnaweera 44.
