We will boycott Indian goods again' says JVP leader
(Lanka-e-News, 2008 Feb.21, 6.00 PM) JVP leader Somawansa Amarasinghe said in a rally in Anuradhapura on February 18 that Indian goods would be boycotted again if India involves in Sri Lanka's separatist struggle and JVP would come to streets with people to fight India's attempts to re-implement the discarded Indo-Lanka Accord.
The JVP leader made these comments addressing a rally themed "Hold back the Government's separatist proposals" held at Kadapanaha in Anuradhapura.
"The President attempts to give way to Indian expansionism covering to power devolution. It is the aim of the Interim Council. We can't allow this and JVP will boldly face this challenge with people."
"What are the enemy fronts of our country? First came Norway. European Union, Brussels, Washington, and Tokyo came after it. These vicious forces did wrong to us openly while another force was appearing as a friend. That is New Delhi."
"We are used to these tactics. We faced them once and would do the same in future. There are masked separatists. JVP has the strength to defeat all of them," said the JVP leader.
In 1988, JVP opposed Provincial Councils but contested them in 2004. They will have to pay back the state the money and the benefits they enjoyed from Provincial Councils since 2004 if they need credibility. JVP earned Rs. 3,348,000 per month from Provincial Councils. The amount JVP earned thanks to the 13th amendment during the past 31 months is well over Rs. 103 million.
Moreover, JVP obtained Rs. 20 million from India at the past general election. JVP did not deny the media reports on such transaction up to date.
