See friends , B4 you say Ubuntu is faster than XP , i have to ask "how did you messure/compare the speed of two OSs ? " for an example, one can say a "maruti" is faster than a "ford" or vice versa if both vehicles traveled under same conditions (ex : same road ) . Otherwise it is not fair right ? May be you are talking about BOOT up speed ? My Xp takes 10 seconds, ubuntu takes 13 seconds, Redhat takes 9-10 seconds. Is it a big deal ? Boot up speed depends upon how much services you have running in your OS. Yeah ubuntu performance is good when you use it as a server box !, but Ubuntu is for normal users who use an os for day today stuff, for more demanding users Ubuntu is not the ideal choice(u knw wt i mean). What i say is in day today Usage, Office, Email ,etc in XP is faster than ubuntu. The reason is GUI!! In windows 80% of the GUI is integrated in to the Kernel , But in ubuntu GUI is a separate layer. Due to XP's GUI-Kernal intragation XP GUI is much faster than Ubuntu. If you don't believe me for some reason, just Run Open office Word in ubuntu and Note the Start time, then runn MS office WORD in xp and note the start time then compare , if you are not a blind NIX fan who go for the trend (wanna be geek) saying "windows is shit Use linux " just for nothing, you will notice a HUGE deference in start times ! the reason is XP'S GUI-Kernal integration. There is a bad side of that too(some times is leads to Deadlocks), but in VISTA MS ppl has solved that too :).
