As most of us in SL, i too was a guy who was living on a pirated versions xp. And spends countless number of times on the internet to find the best software and the cracks and the serial numbers for it. And when it comes to Windows, No matter what you do there's always a new Virus. and no matter what you do whether you press, HEAL, QUARANTINE, Or DELETE on your virus gaurd, it doesnt seems to go away right? well then there you go and try to find cracks of kaspersky or mcafee on the net or reformatting your hard drive.:growl: . Well i came across with the same problem. And i was doing my coursework in the degree i was following and formatting of the hard drive was not an option. But i had a Ubuntu Live CD. So i thought it cant be that bad, so i tried it, and i was soo impressed with the gui and the fuctionality it had, i mean its soooooooo stable. not like Xp. runs smooth and never crashes.
Now im Using Ubuntu and im glad to say that im independant over windows. Yes, its really hard to hop in to a new OS, but there are lot resources in the Internet where you can get help from forums dedicated to ubuntu and live online help (using IRC).. Getting used to play with ubuntu is the most easiest thing cuz of that.
It has all the things we ever need...
like a cool Chat manager, flv players, media encoders, rippers, media players, supports a lot of media types, and a handy Office manager, lots of programming resources...
with a few adjustments here and there, you could get your ubuntu box the No1 OS ever made.:)
my ubuntu looks more pleasant than XP. and ive full control over how it looks, ive attached a screen shot of my ubuntu desktop.

[sorry about the quality]

And no operating system is completed without games right?:)
well im playing Warcraft 3, Counter Strike And Unreal Tournament inside ubuntu. They all work smooth.

i m using suse, tell me about gaming in ubuntu
well for instant there are lot of softwares where you can install in linux to use windows applications.
some of them are wine, winex, crossover ofice, and the latest one is cedega..
from these you can either install or run the game copy you have it in windows.

Wine is good for applications. but theoritically not for gaming, but im using it ever since.

Winex is the 3D graphics game supportaed version of Wine. and its recommended by the produces for games

Crossover Office is a stupid software made by someone. well in there you are given preinstalled softwares like officeXp, photoshop, acrobat reader and many more

Cedega is the most improved version ever there for this purpose, supports hudreds of windows dedicated games such as WOW(World Of Warcraft, Batlefield 2.. and etc) (if you can play WOW in linux thats worth it, but the defect of cedega is that its commercial. but there are sites where you can get it for free cuz you know when its comes to open source nothing can be commercial..:)

thanks machan, i ll try them
youre welcome machan, there's no difference in gaming in Suse or either Ubuntu cuz it works all the same as in all linux distros but if you want to stay with the tide, i recomend you use linux cuz the help you can get just in case a problem is endless in the internet, there are dedicated sites and people who are willing to help live through IRC channels totally free...

UT linux Version

UT linux version is also available, the screenshot you see there is from an emulator called Wine. ive already had the windows copy of UT, so i used it with Wine, so you see linix is so flexible that you dont have to get proprietary software only for linux.. you can share the resources of other operating systems. cuz windows operating system thinks that its the only operating system in the world, that is not possible!!!
too bad ne?, but now worries, linux is there to help.. :D
