I heard that almost all galaxies have a massive blackhole in the center of them. Is it correct?

yes according to a team of scientists called the NUCKER group made observations on large number of galaxies and found out almost all of them have a Super Massive Black Hole in the center, Scientists now believe that when the Big Bang occurred the scattered clusters of gas gave birth to super massive black holes inside each gas cluster by Gravitational colapse, when these Super Massive black holes are created, they instantlly started sucking up near by gas clouds thus creating quasars (quasars made intense heat differences throughout the gas cluster ) that helped the gas cluster to become a galaxy in time. after some times the energy jets of the quasar makes the super massive balck hole isolate thus completing the forming of the galaxy, our own Milkyway have a super massive balchole in the center, some 25000 light years away from the solar system, but our galaxy is not active anymore casue the Black holes is not swallowing up matter.

you are welcome, if u can find there's a book by Stephen Hawkins called "A Brief History of Time" Read it

if u have any questions pls ask

This is a dumb question..bt what the hell

according to your fun example..if a ship goes near the event horizon of a black hole it stops because the time stops..that means the ship is frozen in time for ever infront of the BH...

then no object can be sucked inside a black hole right ? because u cant get inside a black hole as time stops before that ?

NO that's not true, when a ship enters a even horizon the final rays of light reflected from the ship will get stuck near the event horizon because of time dilation, but the ship it self will be inside the event horizon, remember time dilation is Relative, ppl aboard the ship will not feel the time dilation effect, what we can see is the last rays of light stuck near the even horizon.

so in front of the singularity..time only stops for light but not 4 matter ? really confused now.. :baffled:

lool no no sorry if i made u confused, its just that extremely near the event horizon the escape velocity approaches near light speed and at the place it reaches light speed the light just stops entering the event horizon or leaving it

I am bit confused :baffled:, if light can't enter into the event horizon, how can any matter could enter into a black hole? I thought it is not possible to light or any matter to escape from a black hole once they pass the event horizon. And of course I thought it is possible matter or light to enter into a black hole:baffled:.

lool, actually they enter the event horizon what the observer sees is only relative, u can call it a illusion played by time dilation effects

Nice post and super interesting subject to talk.

And if you need science fiction around black holes
read Bobo's Star by Glenn Chandler

Star trek, Stargate series has lot of literature around black holes.

    Check this too..

    If I hadn't been a player, I
    would have become an
    astronomer. Why?
    Supermassive Black Holes.

    ok, thats clear as mud..

BTW, does black holes ever get filled up ?
Blackholes don't fill up. They grow from the mass they feeds on.

Star trek is mostly fantasy. Asimov has some good Sci Fi, some of which deals with black holes.
Ofcause so does A.C.C. but I cant recall any of his books dealing with black holes.

u r right.. I too cant think of any books or even short stories of clerk which relates to black holes..

As GTRZ suggested black holes don't get filled up, rather the event horizon of the black hole gets larger because of the increased mass (hence increased space time warp or gravity) actual singularity remains a singularity ( singularity doesn't have a size of sorts and known laws of physics breaks down in a singularity) and it doesn't change size cause it doesnt have one.

So, GT, does this HOLE's have anything common with "glory holes" as well?

dont be a A-hole here ok, this is a thread where ppl talk so they can learn something, move ur small talks to some other thread, read this threads rules if ur brain doesnt compute what im saying.

I was making a small joke on GT !!

and it didn't involve you either :P
