If it severed prematurely, the destination Stargate holds the data it receives prior to the disturbance, in its buffer. Its a safety mechanism which should be handled by a DHD. Ancient were surely prescient of many worst case scenarios. And DHD receive over 400 signals when a incoming or outgoing wormhole established. Caters interface take only 180 of them into account.
