I wish I’d taken a photograph of this. But if you happen to travel through Kadawatha Road to avoid main road traffic to & from work like I do you may have seen what I’m going to blog about today.
If you see a series of black flags along the street and think its probably a funeral - think again. Its probably the death of human decency but certainly not a physical one. Look to the side and you’ll see posters on every single wall of every house, shop and other establishments. Slap bang in the middle of the road, you’ll a large, loud ORANGE banner (gee, I wonder why that is) saying something to the effect of “We don’t want a Mosque tainting our neighbourhood”.
I’m not a Muslim and I can’t even imagine how the muslims in the neighbourhood must be feeling. There’s at least one Muslim establishment on that road we all know about - Galle Caterers.
I could have understood if this was a neighbourhood that wants to live a quiet, peaceful life and any religious establishment would mean noise and traffic. But this road also houses a temple and kovil. So that argument went out the window. There’s also a lot of noise in the area when the drunken men come home and then get chased up and down the road by their wives brandishing kitchen knives. Trust me - I’ve seen it more than once.
This is not going to have a long preachy ending. Just wanted you all to hear the facts and to tell you that I’m enraged.
