On a different note, we all know that the topic of intelligence has become quite the hot potato. I think this aversion still persists due to a big mistake we do in terms how we view and value intelligence. I think it’s a wrong move to regard intelligence as something ethereal or supreme to every other human trait, period. This is nothing new, even goes back to ancient societies where people thought being scholarly minded is more worthwhile than being physically strong or having a big genitalia, latter of which was considered uncouth or barbaric. True, there are situations where intelligence should be given the priority than physical apprehension but there’s no reason to do so in general. We are biological systems. We know that certain ethnicities are better at discharging tremendous amounts of metabolic energy in a short period of time so they become better athletes, some ethnicities have crazy precise hand-eye coordination and they are better at tasks that require dexterity, certain ethnicities are good at analytical thinking so they excel at scholarly work—all of these are expressions of our biological existence. Nobody bats an eye when Africans are said to have superior physical strength and stamina, when East Asians kids win every piano and violin competition on earth but the moment intelligence is brought to the table we get touchy feely. Because we deep down think being intelligent is better than other biological traits which is objectively fallacious. We really should stop doing this. Being intelligent than others should not be a crime any more than being more athletic than others. Some people are better at problem solving, some are more susceptible to diseases, some are more physically fit—none of these people are better or worse at being human than others in general. If we level the aforementioned hierarchy a bit I think intelligence discourse will have a more welcoming environment. PS: Having said all this, historically, we should blame the Nazis and American eugenists…they are the ones who spoiled this topic for everyone and made it more pernicious. At the wrong hands topic of intelligence could have disastrous social implications indeed and that threat should be avoided at all costs.
