Not touched by Muller but I find fascinating how intelligence is sometimes correlated with seemingly extraneous human traits out of the blue—for instance there’s data to suggest that intelligence and facial or limbic symmetry are sufficiently correlated. Very peculiar until you hear the explanation. Nutritional, physical conditions an embryo experiences in its nascent stages determine its brain development. These conditions also have an effect on how it develops structurally. So naturally, one who receives better nutrition and less physical trauma is imparted better cognition as well as structurally sound appearance. In this case intelligence- symmetry correlation is a fascinating red herring but the culprit is foetal well-being.

An Interesting take.. but I could not help myself thinking about those who showed psychopathic tendencies throughout history and were in fact lacked the facts you just mentioned? Surely not. Often times they experienced far too many childhood traumas. Somehow they developed to be extremely intelligent and in some cases even good-looking individuals.

On a different note, we all know that the topic of intelligence has become quite the hot potato. I think this aversion still persists due to a big mistake we do in terms how we view and value intelligence.

I think it’s a wrong move to regard intelligence as something ethereal or supreme to every other human trait, period. This is nothing new, even goes back to ancient societies where people thought being scholarly minded is more worthwhile than being physically strong or having a big genitalia, latter of which was considered uncouth or barbaric. True, there are situations where intelligence should be given the priority than physical apprehension but there’s no reason to do so in general.

We are biological systems. We know that certain ethnicities are better at discharging tremendous amounts of metabolic energy in a short period of time so they become better athletes, some ethnicities have crazy precise hand-eye coordination and they are better at tasks that require dexterity, certain ethnicities are good at analytical thinking so they excel at scholarly work—all of these are expressions of our biological existence. Nobody bats an eye when Africans are said to have superior physical strength and stamina, when East Asians kids win every piano and violin competition on earth but the moment intelligence is brought to the table we get touchy feely. Because we deep down think being intelligent is better than other biological traits which is objectively fallacious. We really should stop doing this. Being intelligent than others should not be a crime any more than being more athletic than others. Some people are better at problem solving, some are more susceptible to diseases, some are more physically fit—none of these people are better or worse at being human than others in general.

If we level the aforementioned hierarchy a bit I think intelligence discourse will have a more welcoming environment.

    PS:
Having said all this, historically, we should blame the Nazis and American eugenists…they are the ones who spoiled this topic for everyone and made it more pernicious. At the wrong hands topic of intelligence could have disastrous social implications indeed and that threat should be avoided at all costs.

You didn't get my "pun" regarding this video, eh?
Very well, I'll check out the Veritasium one.
No I haven't watched your video.... It says "strangers ranking their intelligence". That was a good enough deterrent. Like asking the 69 lakhs about their intelligence. :ROFLMAO:

Not confident enough to say anything on this.

Note that it’s foetal trauma as opposed to childhood. Either way, don’t you think psychopaths constitute too small a sample size to derive anything useful on this.

Intelligence is part genetics and part environment. Earlier it was thought that the intelligence comes from the mother. This is not exactly true or proven. It's only the Fakebook that propagates this. But no recent studies have ever found key intelligence genes on the X-chromosome explicitly. Most likely it's attributed to both parents and note that this doesn't imply smart parents to always produce smart offspring either. It's far too complex.
But dumb parenting can cause dumber offspring. That's the sad story we face. :(

That’s exactly why i wanted you to watch it. There’s a very satisfying twist at the end. :ROFLMAO:

Yup. I missed the whole foetal scenario. My bad.
