GP1 - Oil burn / Sludge issues
GP5 - DCT issues
![]()
GP1 - Some GP1 burns oil after 100k KM and could be fixed with modified original piston rings. Not a serious issue.
GP5 - DCT issue on pre 2015 models. Mostly due to lack of clutch oil change in proper intervals. Costs about 300-400k to replace the clutch kit.

For GP1 you have to get the repair kit issued by Honda with 4 new pistons. then you have to take your engine apart and replace every consumable rubbers in addition to pistons which actually has the problem. I don't think it's a simple everyday repair. Agent quotes more than 100K for this.
in GP5 it's not related to oil change at all but the design of the clutch pack itself. Our climate is partly to blame.
Not trying to condemn any of these cars and they are pretty great looking hatches we have but has to be aware of potential problems as no car is perfect. As for the differences
1. GP1 has IMA hybrid system where as GP5 is a full hybrid. GP5 does good on fuel than GP1 + little more reliable.
2. GP1 has CVT transmission and GP5 has DCT.
