its like a digital signature of your download...used by the torrent client to keep track of the respective torrents & the site the torrent was downloaded/ing from.....also used by trackers n peer Pcs....

csn be used to resume torrents even if client is deleted...as long as directory path is still linked to same place.....

very useful really.....
