I will keep pirating.
Yes they dont install windows with the machines they sell but some shops have this mobile service where they send a team home to install windows for u. finding cds (pirated) is not a problem, atleast for me. However if vista sells its ultimate edition at 8000 i will buy it. its around 30000-40000/- instead. Ofcourse there is the option of freewares. but i prefer to stick to windows as its the most commonly used 1 atm.

P.S. TeleCommunication is getting better and better and as soon as pirated cds become extinct in Sri Lanka (highly unlikely) v can start downloading torrents :D

P.S.S. im only trying to help the Sri Lankan economy by not adding on the huge trade deficit :D

cheers!

as most Sri Lankans are not rich people we cant spent whole lot of money for computer software. specially with the prevailing situation in the country, I think i must spend more than 1 lack(dont know for sure) if i am buying Maya software. So how can we do that!!
I think software piracy is bad . but i think sharing is good nee..torrents are like that. but the thing is in SL broadband internet connectivity is not widely spread among the country. so person who are in a rural area cant move in to the new technology.
Open source application will be a good solution for this for sure. But the thing is that 99% people in Sri Lanka is used to Windows platform. So to overcome that problem education institutes(most probably Univercities) must use linux based OS and they have to initiate a project to introduce opensource application to the society,
These are my thoughts on this issue, Like to know u r thoughts.
thanks Chamithal for starting this thread. Its a big issue these days.

I totally agree - we should move open source... but see - most of our uni assignmets are based on matlab... (kohoma salli deela gannada? + they don't recommend or give ny alternative opensource solution) itihn wena mona karannada pirate karanne nathuwa... :D u r right... it shd start from d education system + open source O/S shd get more user friendly.. :D

It seems like there are no pirated s/ws in unity - I went to Barclays to get a quotation for a PC and they even won't install windows for machines they sell... Should buy windows - Vista Starter is somewhere around 6500... If conditions prevail, what will you do?

    VOTE and Comment...

I wold ask them to put the price for Vista ultimate also into the quatation, and I will also get a quatation from somewhere else with pirated copy for same configuration and buy the lower priced one. New machine is new machine, so OS should be there when you buy it.

yea to think about it so many companies will have to spend millions on multiple pc software licenses and thats gonna have a drastic effect on the outflow of money from the country. analysing the present credit crunch, v cant afford to spend on imports much. Anyway the revenue Microsoft is going to make from
our country (if by chance it does) is insignificant to its total revenue.

Yea in 5 years you might see cross breeds of microsoft and linux made by MS looking at the rate at which it bids on other companies like yahoo and facebook.

ha ha... are you into business or something... coz if u r not - you should... well - I guess - if we had to BUY software - since srilankans will not pay (or cant pay) for something where an alternative will be there free - people will move open source - but since all branded laptops n stuff come with preinstalled windows - windows will be there too.. yeah.. so it'll be like WinuX..:rofl:

cant afford. Infaltion is almost 30% daruwaa....hehe:P

true... u knw... if open source is more user friendly - people would love opensource... like say Firefox... it's free and opensource... but see how much people love it.... so if linux can become like that - no chance for Microsoft - coz no one would like to pay 4 wht u get free... xcept in sm special cases... :D - So.. developers - go make linux better...
