There was a farmer who sold a pound of butter to the baker. One day the baker decided to weigh the butter and found that he was not getting a full pound of butter. He was angry and decided to take the farmer to court. The judge asked the farmer what he was using to measure his butter. The farmer replied, "I measure the butter using a scale." The judge asked, "If you are using a scale, what do you compare it against?" The farmer replied, "I have been buying a pound loaf of bread from the baker every week, starting long before he started buying butter from me. Each time the baker brings a loaf of bread, I put it on the scale and give him the same weight in butter."
