Whether Gen. Sarath or any Sarath contests President Rajapakse’s victory is doubtless -3 ministers say
(Lanka-e-News 14.Oct.2009 7.00PM) Three Ministers stated in unison at a media briefing held today (14) in connection with the Southern PC elections at the PA elections propaganda Headquarters that neither General Fonseka nor any Sarath can challenge or topple President Rajapakse at the next Presidential elections.
Minister Susil Premajayantha, the UPFA Secretary analyzing the Southern PC elections referring to Army rule in Asia said, in Pakistan Prime Ministers are being chased out by Army conspiracies. Consequently, plots and problems are multiplying. If the Opposition politics is thinking of displacing the President , there are 20 million people to give an answer, he added.
When the media posed the question whether Minister Yapa Abeywardena urging yesterday (13) not to bring Army heroes to politics and degrade them , and Premajayanth’s statement agree /
The Minister said, these are pressures of Foreign powers. We should not yield to them.
There are raging rumors in political circles that Sarath Fonseka will be a candidate for the next Presidential election?
Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva answered thus:
President Rajapakse can win with any contestant. It does not matter to us who will be the contestant. Because of people’s confidence in us. We can win with a bigger majority than at the Southern PC elections.
Minister Dilan Perera:
If the Opposition says that sarath Fonseka or anybody else is coming forward for the Presidential election s, it is only indicating that the UNP is bankrupt.. Because UNP knows Ranil wickremesinghe cannot win at the Presidential elections that they are promoting other candidates. Extremists cannot be allowed to succeed using the victory of the forces , he added.
