Any idea why they don't have anything to eat?
elephants eat those leaves in trees right?
Anyone knows more about this issue?
The reason is given in Sinhala in the article in the link. So no need for any comments as we all can read and understand it.
Any population in natural will bear only the number of living things, (plant and or animals) it can bear. All others will die. This is not so if you restrict movements/area etc artificially . Eg if you put more fish than it can hold and grow, to fishbowl/tank all will die . First sign is they will not grow next is death. That is what is happening to elephants.
In dry season there is always an issue in SL as grass go brown. This issue is aggravated by Buffalos being illegally allowed to graze the remaining few vegetation and also drink water, by shepherds (who do not understand or dont care- some have become MPs and Ministers !!) .

Although the main reasons were described in the link, he ask it again. You've described it here clearly. Thanks a lot !
