A Sri Lankan Cabinet minister is urging the public to boycott American products, accusing the U.S. of encouraging separatism in the island nation.

A proposed U.S.-backed resolution calling on Sri Lanka to probe alleged abuses during the country's civil war is to be debated at the ongoing U.N. Human Rights Council session in Geneva. The 25-year war ended in 2009, with government troops defeating the Tamil Tiger rebels.

Housing Minister Wimal Weerawansa said Tuesday that the proposed U.S.-backed resolution amounts to calling for the revival of the defeated rebels.

Sri Lanka's government has organized a series of street protests against the proposed resolution around the country.

The government has completely lost the plot.

The US & the EU are the top destinations for Sri Lankan exports worth $ billions.

In the US when you walk into a major store like GAP you can easily find a product that is "Made in Sri Lanka".

SL needs to increase exports to reduce the widening trade deficit.

If we boycott US products, then the Chinese people would loose their jobs. Many US companies has their factories in China, and native Chinese work in these factories.
