Updated August 6, 2009
The official support policy for the Windows 7 TechNet Forums beginning today (August 6, 2009) is that we only support Windows 7 Release Candidate (RC) Build 7100 and all Windows 7 “RTM” Editions. As of today, Windows 7 is available to MSDN and TechNet Plus subscribers, and shortly thereafter, customers with Software Assurance (SA) or Volume Licenses (VL). As of today, we will not support any builds/versions other than the ones mentioned above.
Note that since Windows 7 is now a commercially-available product, downloading from a P2P or Torrent location is considered Illegal Piracy of a commercial software product. Also remember that the last date to download Windows 7 RC is August 20, 2009.
Update 7/16/2009:
Some torrent and P2P download locations have been reported as having what appears to be Build 7600 available for download describing it as the RTM Build.
This is NOT the official RTM Build. This version is a copy of the Release Candidate build 7100 that has been hacked to show the build number as 7600. The official RTM Build is still being tested and will not be finished until later this month.
UPDATE: 5/12/2009:
There have been reports that Windows 7 RC builds downloaded from some P2P and Torrent locations have been detected as being infected with malicious code. To avoid this problem, please make sure that you only download the Windows 7 Release Candidate from Microsoft properties. See the following link for details.
