So the limit was 4 primary partitions.  At that time the developers never thought there will be more than 4 will be needed.Later on a fix was done to stretch the limit by allowing THREE primary partitions and ONE extended partition which allowed additional 24 logical partitions WITHIN the extended  partition. This effectively bypassed the 4 partition limit.Without messing around probably you can convert the HDD to GPT and create more partitions. You can do this WITHOUT any data loss using software. I am not so sure whether the free versions do this though. So please check beforehand.Also you need to make sure that your system supports the UEFI boot mode.</blockquote>
