There are some funny firefox clones out there. for eg: Debian has IceWeasel http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iceweasel http://packages.debian.org/unstable/web/iceweasel This is what Debian has to say on their firefox clone, I find it hilarious.  On topic of OS OS [Open Source Operating Systems] I think a new user must start with Ubuntu or PCLinuxOS. It's good just for the sake of experiencing some thing different to M$. Or try a LiveCD. When you get some linux on your bag you can go for Slackware or Gentoo. As you say the software must meet user requirements. I think everything needed for an average user is included in a linux distro. I find ubuntu quite hassle free unlike win xp [I never went for vista] Actually now I don't use ubuntu at all but Zenwalk which is based on Slackware. http://zenwalk.org/ http://www.slackware.org/ There are problems if you want games. That's a weak point of Linux. If you're into games better stick with windows. What the hell I'm writing. I'm a self styled promoter of Linux and my crappy install instructions are responsible for erasing many of my friends harddrives.
