It's good just for the sake of experiencing some thing different to M$. Or try a LiveCD. When you get some linux on your bag you can go for Slackware or Gentoo.As you say the software must meet user requirements. I think everything needed for an average user is included in a linux distro. I find ubuntu quite hassle free unlike win xp [I never went for vista] Actually now I don't use ubuntu at all but Zenwalk which is based on Slackware.<a href="http://zenwalk.org/" target="_blank">http://zenwalk.org/</a><a href="http://www.slackware.org/" target="_blank">http://www.slackware.org/</a>There are problems if you want games. That's a weak point of Linux.
