Message: <blockquote data-quote="goldstar" data-source="post: 13313659" data-attributes="member: 379116">I think before installing XP into another partition you can do the most simple recovery. once you  select "install XP" after booting from the CD it'll detect the existing XP installation and you can select "R"(repair) and it'll start repairing the O/S. it's the simplest way and you will not lose any data.Or else if you can boot it from the safe-mode you can 1st try to run the  check-disk utility. Even you can restore it to to a past restore point. However XP installation is not possible hence he doesn't have a CD <img src="/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/default/D.gif"  class="smilie" loading="lazy" alt=":D" title="Big grin    :D" data-shortname=":D" /></blockquote>
