Some bands are content with sticking with their guns and continuing making the same style of music. If it works, great, but only a band like Within Temptation can go out on a limb and redefine their sound and identity and pull it off to perfection. This is not to say they stopped doing what they do best; far from it. They've taken their style and polished it to create an epic sound, appropriate considering the album is based off a new comic book series (which is never a bad idea). Their boundary-busting style comes clearest with sure hits like "Sinéad" and "A Demon's Fate", yet there are also songs like "Where Is the Edge" and "Stairway to the Skies" to remind you that they are still very much the same Within Temptation we've come to know and love. In short, if you're bored with the same old music that brought us "Friday" go out and get some relief with "The Unforgiving". I promise you won't regret it.
