Ousted Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi has been captured, according to a National Transitional Council official.
"He's captured. He's wounded in both legs ... He's been taken away by ambulance," Abdel Majid told the Reuters news agency.
Gaddafi was reportedly seized near his hometown of Sirte as he attempted to flee in a convoy.
Mohamed Leith, another NTC military commander, told the AFP news agency: "He has been captured. He is badly wounded, but he is still breathing."
US state department spokeswoman Beth Gosselin said Washington was aware of the reports but could not confirm them.
