Sri Lankan born Indian actress Pooja Umashankar had emerged victoriously through the challenges for she is able to dub her own lines for ‘Kusa-Paba’ directed by award-winning filmmaker Prof. Sunil Ariyaratne. Not surprisingly more Sri Lankan directors have been eyeing the talented beauty to rope her into their projects. Pooja plays the female lead role ‘Paba’, award-winning actor and filmmaker Jackson Anthony play the male lead role ‘Kusa’ .
The movie from the 550 Jathaka tales and one of the most popular among the lot(Kusa Jathakaya, 523rd story). This is the story of one of Prince Siddhartha's previous births, one in which he was born with a disfigured face and had to woo the most beautiful princess in the land.
This is the maiden film production of the Filmmakers Guild of Sri Lanka comprising Somaratne Dissanayake, Renuka Balasooriya, Udayakantha Warnasuriya, Dhammika Siriwardana, H. D. Premasiri, Sunil T. Fernando, Ariyadasa Peiris, Tissa Nagodawithana, Janitha Marasinghe, Rasitha Jinasena and Channa Deshapriya.
Shooting will begin in July. The locations are in Ranminithanna Tele Cinema Village. Kusa Paba will also be the first Sri Lankan film to be shot in Ranminithanna. The other cast include Ravindra Randeniya, Sanath Gunathilaka, Veena Jayakody, Kusum Renu and others.
