The UNP staged a protest in Maradana this afternoon against the proposed private sector pension bill.
“Instead of bringing this Bill, the Government must give the Rs2, 500 pay raise it promised to public servants,” UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said.
He said the Employees provident fund was started by former President J.R.Jayewardene and that his party would not allow the government to touch that money.
He said the EPF had more money than the entire stock exchange and hence the Government is trying to steal the people’s money.
“Its time the dictatorial government of Mahinda Rajapaksa is sent home and for that all opposition parties must get together,” he said.
