    Guys,

I'm looking for some reliable information

I have a Toyota Town Ace and has a petrol driven engine
I would like to change the engine to a diesel engine. So, basically convert petrol vehicle to diesel one

I need some help from the people who have done similar conversion or where in Colombo I can get it done.

    Thanks

if you want to do a thorough job, you have to replace the engine as well as front suspension to handle the extra weight.
Depending on the engine. you might have to replace the clutch, pressure plate and gearbox as well.

Well, thanks for all replies so far.

The vehicle is year 2001. I have been using this for 5 years. Now, the engine needs some repair work. According to the garage, oil consumption is high and engine needs serious repair work. And they said it may cost somewhat and recommended to keep a diesel engine which will be cheaper in the long run.

So, I guess changing the engine would be the best option rather than going

In general, how much cost are we talking about changing the petrol engine to diesel engine?(to get a rough idea)

Thanks. Does 200000 include everything such as engine and other stuff?

BTW, where and how do we find very good diesel engines? Is it that we should browse in Pnchikawaththa?

no, you'll have to go to body part shops. Go with a technician who knows engines extremely well.
the 200k may only be for the main parts (including the engine) but the total cost can go higher.
fixing your petrol engine cant possibly be higher than converting to diesel. what did you do to it ? drop a grenade ?

Well, as per the garage, it consumes lot of engine oil and also smoke level bit high, the engine should be re-bored and may cost close to 100000
    BTW, thanks for info, appreciate

    I'd say change the garage.
BTW, what kind of a usage did this van have to burn out the engine this much ?
Usually, when the engine burns engine oil, replacing the piston rings and the gaskets is enough. Especially for an engine thats been used only 5 years. When the engine is really worn out, then you have re bore it.
Our van, bought in 96 and running on a daily basis still doesnt burn oil and still doesnt need to re bore the engine.
We have replaced the piston rings when they have worn out.

I suggest you get a second opinion on the state of your petrol engine first.

It was not heavily used. I'm the first owner.

However, the place where I bought (known guy) said mileage meter is reversed. So, I can not say how much it was used.

As you said, it is wise to get second opinion
