People should be aware of this type of people and condemn their actions. The Sirasa TV news carried this on their 7p.m. news last Saturday as I remember.

Well as far as i know, in Sri Lanka the president also directly becomes the main caretaker of the sacred tooth relic. Therefore to my knowledge a non Buddhist cannot be a president. And there is something in the Constitution about having no non-Sinhalese president.

Ranil is also a Christian, people have forgotten that. :oo: though he goes to Kowils and slam coconuts.... he is a nut anyway :oo:

In the Constitution of Sri Lanka, Chapter, II,art.9, says, " The Republic of Sri Lanka shall give to Buddhism the foremost place and accordingly it shall be the duty of the State to protect and foster the Buddha Sasana, while assuring to all religions the rights granted by Articles 10 and 14(1)(e)" and art 12. says, " (1) All persons are equal before the law and are entitled to the equal protection of the law, (2) No citizen shall be discriminated against on the grounds of race, religion, language, caste sex, political opinion, place of birth or any such grounds:"

    :sorry:

    This says otherwise http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ranil_Wickremasinghe

Well when it comes to presidentship it is quite different, it is rightful to choose a president of the religion and race which places a majority in the country. And mate this is coming to you from a catholic.

He is from a Christian family and born Christian, but converted to Buddhism like Puran-appu (who happens to be a relative of mine :P) .

Yeah well, when his running for presidentship he runs as a Sinhalese Buddhist. Thats what matters, and in this case Mr Amarthunga as the opposition leader becomes a direct candidate to become the president, so thats where the problem arises.

He is not the party leader. He is just the acting party leader. All Ranil did was vest is management powers to John Amerathunga. Obviously if there was a Presidential election, John cannot be called as Candidate.

Oh my note, this Constitution issue will be irrelevant if people voted for him to be president and won. The Constitution is a set of rules established for the betterment of majority. Sarath Fonseka didn't have his right to vote, if he did win, he would have been President anyhow.

In a majority Buddhist country, a person of another religion or race being elected as the president is highly unlikely, and would be against the betterment of the majority.
Well sarath foneska didn't have the right to vote, cuz he didnt register for it :S

Even your family also Buddhist who converted to Christians i think U know......:baffled:

Yes, you are correct. My mothers -> mothers -> fathers -> father -> brother is Virapuran-appu, as we all know Virapuran-appu's brother was the "rendda rala" and was Anglican.

My mothers -> mothers -> father was Anglican and my grandmother was part of a family of 13! but all of them became Catholic over faith to St. Anthony. In those days there was a deadly disease without a cure spreading in his town and children were dying, my grandmother's father who is a son of "rendda rala" went to St. Anthony's church Kochchikade and made "Bara" to St. Anthony that he and his family would become Catholic if St. Anthony would save his children, St. Anthony saved all 13 children and keeping the promise my grandmother and all her sisters and brothers became Catholic.

She did social work through the Catholic church and bought forward the New Zealand milk program to Mura-watte in Moratuwa which is still operative for the needy disregarding their race or religion.

My grandmother however became Anglican again and was buried in the family walls of the Holy Emmanuel Church - Moratuwa along with the remains of Veera-puran appu in December of 2010. It will be the last time the walls will be opened.

We are Catholic because of faith, not because of anything else. So when we say people are attacking or mistreating our religion, we mean it.
