A clash between guards and inmates at a Sri Lankan prison on Tuesday has injured more than 20 people, officials said.
They said the inmates began rioting to demand the replacement of the prison chief.
Soldiers were deployed to control the inmates, who started a fire inside the prison in Colombo. Reporters outside heard gunshots from within the compound, and police fired tear gas.
Some prisoners were seen on the roof shouting slogans and holding a banner demanding the removal of the official. Some threw stones at vehicles on a nearby road.
