My answer is not based off Quran or Hadith but rather my own limited logic. There are many things that were created that we cannot eat, but they all have a function on this planet.

Pigs are very good refuse disposals. When I was growing up I had a friend that owned pigs and was shocked at what these animals can eat and not get sick. There is a reason they call it "slop." Wild pigs eat anything on the ground and thus are kind of like nature's janitors. Pigs are cool....they have a job and do it well.

You are asking people to explain why God ordered something. It is not justified.
If you believe on the existence of God, you should ask this question to God himself.
However, if you are an atheist, this order doesn't carry any importance to you.
