Cheerleaders ‘not beautiful enough’ says T20 boss
The man in charge of the cheerleaders at the World Twenty20 cricket tournament in Sri Lanka has admitted the girls are not as "beautiful" as he would have liked.
Sudev Abeysekarara said that he has done the best he can with the girls at his disposal but that financial concerns have limited the impact he would have liked to have made at the tournament.
"The dance steps being performed are fine. But the thing is that in an event like this you need good looking girls, and to get the beautiful girls who are professional dancers, you have to pay more. The payment is not that great," he told the Hindustan Times.
"The style and fashion is okay, but the quality of the dresses is poor. The girls are not comfortable, the tights they are wearing slip down while dancing and the girls are busy tying them here and there.
"Most of our dancers will not wear shorts for an event like this because they are conscious that parents are watching."
Abeysekarara also said he was not given enough time with the dancers and that the girls are not comfortable performing the type of dances the organisers are expecting.
"You need three-four months of practice, I have got 7-8 days to train the girls," he said.
"There are nice local dance forms in Kandian dancing, locountry and sabaragamu dancing. But I was told to do these steps, hip-hop with a bit of Latin American dance steps."
The tournament in Sri Lanka has struggled to make an impact with crowds low and players complaining of boredom.
"Whole day of FIFA [the football video game] I reckon. Nothing else to do in Kandy," tweeted England star Ravi Bopara the day before England were due to face the hosts.
Bopara lasted just six balls in that match to end a disastrous tournament for England who only managed win over Afghanistan and New Zealand in defence of the title they won in 2010.

SLPL SEV කරපු නිසා තමා ඔහොමවත් ගොඩ ගියේ SLC විතරක් නෙමෙයි ICC එකත් ඕවා ගැන සැලකිලිමත් වෙන්න ඕන මොකද මේක ICC tournament එකක් නිසා
