Chinese manufacturer Vivo has released the first phone with the so-called 2K HD or Quad HD (QHD) screen, the media report.
After much teasing and speculations the novelty was introduced at an event in Beijing which put long awaited lauch of Samsung’s Galaxy S4 to shame.
The Korean tech giant unveiled to public its much anticipated device demonstrating on a large screen flashy effects, but even this couldn’t eclipse the Vivo Xplay 3S with its amazing 6-inch, 2560 x 1440 pixel touchscreen.
For several months several companies have been showing pre-production versions of 1440p displays, but this is the first one that is fitted to a smartphone.
“The display is huge in just about every way, as in addition to the size and pixel count, the pixel density comes in a 490ppi,”describes the device Digital Trends.
The tech blog compares: “That’s more than the Galaxy S4 and HTC One, and while we’ve been seeing higher figures quoted in relation to 1440p screens, the XPlay 3S’s screen size is slightly larger than those demoed earlier this year.”
As far as other features are concerned, it should be noted that the smartphone is powered by a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor and has 3GB of RAM, the same the Galaxy Note 3 has, plus there is 32GB of built-in storage space.
The body of the Vivo Xplay 3S is manufactured of metal and at its thinnest point it’s 4.5mm thick. The phone weighs 172 grams. Which is more, the device has a 13-megapixel camera, one more its advantage is 4G LTE connectivity, and a choice of black or white color shells.
Engaget writes of the smartphone: “There are some nice goodies in the latest version of Vivo’s Android ROM, which is now awkwardly dubbed Funtouch OS. ”
“The most notable one is Photo+, a video sharing app that takes advantage of augmented reality (as demonstrated in the above clip). Once your video is uploaded to the cloud, you can pick a video frame for printing or sharing digitally; and then using the same app, point the camera at the still to “animate” it with its assigned video clip,” the publication adds.
Like Apple’s latest novelty, the iPhone 5S, and the HTC One Max, the just announced device has a fingerprint sensor, fitted right below the flash unit on the back of the device, so it’s easy to use when unlocking the phone.
Besides its incredibly large screen, the XPlay 3S has one more distinctive feature, as audio experts DTS have fitted the new DTS Headphone X audio chip, which provides cinema-style surround sound to match the cinema-style display.
However, there’s a piece of bad news as the Vivo Xplay 3S won’t hit shops internationally, so we’re unlikely to get our hands on this unique device; but that’s doesn’t mean we won’t enjoy 1440p devices soon.
If reports are true to live, the prime candidate to introduce the device with such a resolution is Samsung,which is expected to unveil its Galaxy S5 early next year.
