No offence but this will be a great relief for the team. It was due for a long time. He has not been consistent over the years and to my mind is selfishly holding his position. You guys may have different opinions. Some people look at these things in emotional aspects because he is a favourite player of most people. but anybody with cricketing brain will agree that this is good for the team. We saw players like Kallis, Gilly, Hayden, Strauss, G.Smith retired when they had lot of age left in them. With south African team we can see its paying off. With Aussies we can see its paying off. So if a player really loves his country and the team he must make decisions for the betterment of the team. Must not be selfish. That was not the case with MJ. I agree that he is a best strategic captain we've had and he maybe a great help for young players. Some also argue he is a big match player and rise to the big occasion. That's kind of a lame excuse for a guy who doesn't score 7 out of 10 matches. Especially given his senior status in the team and experience, lot of responsibility is expected from him. Most of the time he has not been able to provide that consistency and stability to the team when it matters most. More often than not it puts pressure on younger guys in the team. For example take the last match @ hambanthota. After such a good start, on a great batting pitch he just perished. Can't have excuses for that. If I am wrong take Sanga. Take Dilshan. They have been the most consistent batters we have over the years. I believe Sanga is the most consistent batsman we ever had in our cricketing history. MJ could not match that kind of consistency by any means. Its a shame for a player with such a great experience. He was always struggling through out these years.
