As a sacred place Devanagala has been important because of two inscriptions and the foot print. Old image house built on stone pillars (‘TampitaVihara’) is exquisite.
One inscription is belonged to the reign of King Wimaladarmasuriya I (1592 – 1604 AD) and other of the reign of King Parakramabahu I . Viharaya also received privilages by King Keerthi Sri Rajasinghe
