1. Murder. Or at least acting as an accessory to murder. Almost daily, I consume the flesh of sentient beings that are capable of suffering and that are made to suffer so that I can have the pleasure of eating them. I could avoid this by becoming a vegetarian or vegan*, but I don't and probably won't. My main method of dealing with this is denial.
* Though even this is a lie, because in many ways besides eating (e.g. destruction of environments), I participate in a culture that murders the thinking/feeling beings I share the planet with.
2. Extreme selfishness. I live in a two-floor apartment which I share with just one other person: my wife. In addition to our bedroom, we have a large living-room and a spare bedroom, which goes unused (aside from being a place to store things) most of the year. There's a bed in it no one uses, except the few days a year we have guests.
Meanwhile, I live in a city where homeless people die due to exposure. I could save at least one life by allowing someone to spend the winter in that room. I don't and won't.
In addition, though I live on a planet where many people are starving, I spend a large amount of cash each year on luxury items, some of which I don't even wind up using. For instance, I'm not a gamer, but a couple of years ago, on a whim, I spent over a hundred dollars on a wii console. It's now sitting by my TV, gathering dust. Meanwhile, people are starving. I don't even plan to sell the wii and give the money to charity. If I do sell it, I'll probably use the money to go to a fancy restaurant or buy some other gadget I won't use.
I don't believe I'm required to strip myself down to bare subsistence levels for the sake of others. But I waste way more money than I need for survival and happiness.
I step over homeless people to get into Best Buy. It's easy for me to do it. I do it every day without thinking. My strategy for keeping guilt at bay is denial.
