    Battle For The Dawn
    :D

In the previous posts I described about the long night that fell upon the realms of the men and the coming of Others. The others were sent back to the lands of always winter by he children of the forest & the first me. The final battle that'll seal victory against the others was called the "Battle Of The Dawn" This is where the legendary "Azor Ahai" comes to life. :)

The Battle for the Dawn was a legendary battle against the Others which marked the end of the Long Night during the Age of Heroes. It is possibly connected with the legends of Azor Ahai, the prince that was promised, and the last hero.

The 'Others', as these demons were called, were eventually checked when it was discovered that weapons made of dragonglass (obsidian) could kill them.
    .

    Dragonglass / Obsidian
    :oo: :oo:

Dragonglass is volcanic glass, or obsidian. children of the forest make weapons out of dragonglass, including daggers, blades and arrowheads. During the Age of Heroes it was also recorded by the Night's Watch that the children of the forest gave the black brothers a hundred obsidian daggers every year. Dragonglass weapons are one of the few weaknesses of the Others. An Other that is pierced by an obsidian blade dies almost instantaneously. Obsidian blades are sharper than steel but far more brittle. The Valyrians called obsidian frozen fire and made use of obsidian to make their glass candles.

The smallfolk like to say that dragonglass is made by dragons while Maesters say it comes from the fires of the earth. There are large deposits of dragonglass on Dragonstone and it is an important export from Asshai.
Mors Umber wears a chunk of dragonglass in place of a lost eye.

    Azor Ahai :D

    latest

"According to prophecy, our champion will be reborn to wake dragons from stone and reforge the great sword Lightbringer that defeated the darkness those thousands of years ago.
If the old tales are true, a terrible weapon forged with a loving wife's heart. Part of me thinks man was well rid of it, but great power requires great sacrifice. That much at least the Lord of Light is clear on." ―Thoros of Myr

Okay so the biggest question for most of the GOT fans is "Who is Azor Ahai Reborn?" And the other, "Who will ride the 3 dragons?". Well to me that really doesn't matter that much. :P But nevertheless "The Prince That was Promised" is a person I also think as vital to the end of the story.
Apart from the main contenders to these positions, I think Brandon & Arya will play bigger roles in the upcoming books.

Azor Ahai was a legendary hero who wielded a burning sword called Lightbringer, according to tales from Asshai and followers of R'hllor. In some other cultures this warrior is called Hyrkoon the Hero, Yin Tar, Neferion, and Eldric Shadowchaser (Throughout the world there are so many stories about this character. But it is unknown that whether this is the same person or not)

    The Legend Of The Lightbringer

Lightbringer is the sword of Azor Ahai, a legendary hero who is prophesied to fight the Great Other. Lightbringer is thought to be a sword made of living fire. It is also known as the Red Sword of Heroes

Darkness lay over the world and a hero, Azor Ahai, was chosen to fight against it. To fight the darkness, Azor Ahai needed to forge a hero's sword. He labored for thirty days and thirty nights until it was done. However, when he went to temper it in water, the sword broke. He was not one to give up easily, so he started over.

The second time he took fifty days and fifty nights to make the sword, even better than the first. To temper it this time, he captured a lion and drove the sword into its heart, but once more the steel shattered.

The third time, with a heavy heart, for he knew beforehand what he must do to finish the blade, he worked for a hundred days and nights until it was finished. This time, he called for his wife, Nissa Nissa, and asked her to bare her breast. He drove his sword into her living heart, her soul combining with the steel of the sword, creating Lightbringer, the Red Sword of Heroes.

Although he had Lightbringer, Azor Ahai did not fight alone. The Jade Compendium mentions that when the hero thrust the blade through a monster, the creature burst into flame.

Next I'll talk about the other prophecy. "The Prince That Was Promised"

In the last post I talked about Azor Ahai and the legend surrounding him.
There's a lot of facts that let us to believe that Azor Ahai Reborn & The prince that was promised, will be the same person.
But ONLY MELISANDRE HAS USED BOTH WORDS TO MENTION THE SAME HERO

    The Prince That Was Promised

The prince that was promised is a prophesied leader or saviour. The prince may be part of an ancient prophecy, a prophecy that foretells the coming of a hero to deliver the world from darkness. A "bleeding star" is supposed to herald the coming of the prince. The prince is said to have "a song" - the song of ice and fire. (The content of the song of ice & fire is unknown)

It is not known from where the prophecy originates, as information on the prince that was promised is scant. Based on the fact that Maester Aemon mentions “a thousand years” to Samwell Tarly it should be safe to say the prince that was promised prophecy is at least 1,000 years old. According to Melisandre the prince that was promised coming was prophesied 5,000 years ago. She does not mention who made the prophecy.

Melisandre has mentioned the prince that was promised and Azor Ahai interchangeably but she tends to use the name Azor Ahai far more often. Aemon only mentions the prince that was promised, never the name Azor Ahai.

It appears as if the Targaryen family had been awaiting the arrival of the prince so the prophecy may come from Old Valyria, but that is conjecture. There is not as much clear information on the prince as, for example, Azor Ahai. (And then there's Rhaegar Targaryen :) )

The Promised Prince = Rhaegar Targaryen ???

    latest

Since the TV show doesn't do much history, most of you may see Rhaegar as a Villain. But he's actually somewhat of a opposite. He's was well loved by the people during his time. He's silent, a thinker and keep himself private. Before he became a knight, he read so many books and was a talented musician. But one day something he read changed his life.
Rhaegar was born on the same day the tragedy of summerhall took place and said to be "born in grief" (I'll write an entire post about Rhaegar & his story later on)

    320px-Rhaegar_twoiaf.jpg

At one point Prince Rhaegar Targaryen seemed to believe that he might be the prince that was promised. According to a tale told of Rhaegar, one day he found something in his scrolls that changed him and he decided to become a knight. He said to Ser Willem Darry, the master-at-arms,
“I will require a sword and armor. It seems I must be a warrior.”
Therefore, the prince may be a warrior who wields a sword.

But then that was not the case and he still believes of the prophesy and thinks his son "Aegon"who is born from his wife, princess Elia.

The prince that was promised is first mentioned in the House of the Undying when Daenerys Targaryen sees a vision of her brother (This is in the book "A clash with Kings") , Rhaegar, who names his son Aegon, and says,

“He is the prince that was promised, and his is the song of ice and fire.”

Rhaegar looks up as he says those words, his eyes meeting Daenerys's, and it seems to her as if he sees her standing there.

Aemon Targaryen (Master Aemon at Castle Black also believed Aegon to be the prince that was promised. But in the sack of kings landing Aegon with his sister and mother are killed by Gregor Clegane (The mountain) and Tywin Lannisters men.
'Eddard Stark recalls that "Lord Tywin's soldiers" had torn Aegon from his mother's breast and dashed his head against a wall.'

The who is this promised prince???

Melisandre, a worshiper of R'hllor has stated that,

“When the red star bleeds and the darkness gathers, Azor Ahai shall be born again amidst smoke and salt. ”

Much later in Braavos, when talking of the prince to Samwell Tarly, Maester Aemon mentions smoke and salt as being part of the heralding of the prince that was promised coming. Maester Aemon was aware of Rhaegar's beliefs, though it is unclear if he shared them. Aemon would later came to doubt the wisdom of looking for a prince, rather than a princess. He realized there was a translation error, and that the term translated was fluid in terms of gender. This is connected to the term for dragons, which are neither male nor female.

The mention of smoke and salt brings to mind Melisandre’s above mentioned statement. However, Tyrion Lannister has stated that:

“Prophecy is like a half-trained mule. It looks as though it might be useful, but the moment you trust in it, it kicks you in the head.”

Azor Ahai and the prince that was promised may be two distinct prophecies, or they may be one in the same in a prophecy that has the potential to turn out to be about two separate people. The prince may not even be male; the prince may have been referred to as male erroneously for centuries. Aemon firmly believes that the prince is not a prince but a princess, as High Valyrian is a language in which nouns are gender neutral.

    300px-MKomarck_DaenerysTheUnburnt.jpg

Aemon also says to Samwell that the dragon must have three heads. He wakes up weeping, wailing:
“ The dragon must have three heads … but I am too old to be one of them. I should be with her, showing her the way, but my body has betrayed me. ”
It may be that the three-headed dragon is a part of the prince that was promised prophecy, and there are two other people whom the prince will need to have by his side to show him the way.

In my opinion, I believe in Rhaegar stating that his son would be the promised prince. But it's not Aegon. It's Jon. This is all assuming that Jon is the son of Lyanna and Rhaegar.
Since Elia was frail and could not have any more children or maybe because Rhaegar saw some stuff in the scrolls maybe, he planned and kidnapped Lyanna and made her pregnant? Only because the prophesy should come to pass and not because he was unfaithful and cruel?? Because the Rhaegar according to the lore is not a bad person but a good, intelligent man. All those secrets lies with George R.R. Martin and we will know in the upcoming books :)

Up next I'll talk about the Nights King & the Horn of Winter
    Cheers!!!
