'Leicester interested in Fiorentina star Kalinic' - agent

    3361002_heroa.jpg

Premier League champions Leicester City are interested in signing Fiorentina striker Nikola Kalinic, according to the player's agent.

The former Blackburn Rovers forward scored 16 goals in all competitions for La Viola in his debut season after arriving from Dnipro last summer.

And now his representative, Tomislav Ergic, has suggested he could be on the move to the King Power Stadium, though no transfer is imminent.

"It is true, we are aware of the interest from Leicester," he told Jutarnji List. "Anything is possible, but there is no need to rush. The transfer window has only just opened."

Leicester have already made three signings this summer having secured deals for Ron-Robert Zieler, Luis Hernandez and Nampalys Mendy.

And CSKA Moscow striker Ahmed Musa is set to undergo a medical with the Foxes as Claudio Ranieri continues to bolster his squad ahead of their title defence and a first Champions League campaign.

Manchester United will be Ibrahimovic's biggest challenge, says Mourinho

    2966932_heroa.jpg

Jose Mourinho believes Zlatan Ibrahimovic has given himself the biggest challenge of his career by choosing to join Manchester United.

The 34-year-old completed his move to Old Trafford last week, signing a one-year deal after leaving Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.

Ibrahimovic is a proven winner having won league titles in Italy, France, Spain and the Netherlands but Mourinho feels the striker has taken on a difficult task through his move to the Premier League.

"Zlatan is Zlatan," Mourinho told MUTV.

"He wins year after year. His goal record is absolutely amazing, his passion for the game is incredible and it’s only possible with his passion and ambition, with his CV, to make the decision at this stage of his career, for the biggest challenge of his career.

"It’s the biggest club he’s ever played for and the most difficult competition he’s ever played for. He is an amazing player. I think it’s a beautiful thing when a coach has a player and, a few years later, has him again.

"It is beautiful, absolutely beautiful because it means the relationship was fantastic from a personal point of view and the professional engagement was great too. A few years later, we’re back together so I’m happy with that and I know what he can bring to us."

Mourinho unsure whether Eric Bailly is ready for Manchester United

    3285472_heroa.jpg

Jose Mourinho admits he’s unsure whether new Manchester United signing Eric Bailly is ready for the Premier League.

The 22-year-old was the Portuguese’s first signing as United boss, joining in a deal from Villarreal which could cost up to £25 million.

Bailly had played just 35 games in La Liga before his move to United.

And while Mourinho believes the centre-back has the quality to become a success, he is unsure whether the Ivory Coast international can instantly adapt.

“I could compare him with some players I had previously but I don’t want to do it because the boys play for other clubs," the United manager told MUTV.

"He’s a player we believe has all the attributes. Very strong physically, he's very fast. It’s not so easy to find a fast player when you are quite a big body, a heavy guy, a tall boy.

"He comes from a Spanish culture where the first building-up phases are important, so technically he's very good.

"In some periods he played a right-back and because he played as a right-back which demands more by the attacking point of view, so it's for a central defender to play as a right-back.

"My only question mark is a question mark I have to help him delete it, which is a question mark for somebody who has never played for such a big club, with so many responsibilities, with so many expectations.

"So is Eric ready to come here and start performing from day one? I don't know. It's a question mark, my job is to delete the question mark as soon as possible, and to make him a player with stature, brain and personality to play for Manchester United."

Van Persie sparks Leicester City transfer rumours

    2589412_heroa.jpg

Could a Premier League return really be on the cards for Robin van Persie?

Fenerbahce have made it no secret that they are willing to sell the 32-year-old this summer, just a year after he arrived from Manchester United.

West Ham and Crystal Palace have been linked with the former Arsenal striker but could Leicester City also be dark horses in the race?

To send rumour mill into overdrive, Van Persie has started to follow Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez on Twitter.

The striker only follows 140 accounts, making it even less likely that it could be a random following spree.

He even sent Leicester a message of congratulations when they secured their Premier League title in May.
Leicester fans - is Van Persie the man to fire you to a second successive title victory?

Mourinho to give Manchester United starlets Warren and Tuanzebe a chance to impress in pre-season

    3424622_heroa.jpg

Jose Mourinho has named Tyrell Warren and Axel Tuanzebe as two young stars who will get the chance to impress in Manchester United’s first pre-season friendly against Wigan Athletic.

United face the newly promoted Championship club on July 16 before jetting off on their pre-season tour of China.

With some of United’s players at the Copa America and Euro 2016, Mourinho admits he will be taking a look at some of United’s youth players for the friendly at the DW Stadium, and has already spoken to Nicky Butt, head of coaching at the club’s academy, about those who are well-poised to make an impact.

“The first game against Wigan is very important because I’m going to have some players I don’t know very well,” the United manager told MUTV.

"At Wigan I will be bringing guys like Tyrell Warren and Axel Tuanzebe.

"I don't know them well but I just trust Nicky Butt, John Murtough and the structure's judgement, obviously I’m going to work closely with them so I trust them, when they say we have a few players who, in a couple of years, can be first-team players.

“I have to work with them, I have to give them the chance to work with the first team, to know me, to feel me, to accelerate that process because that process will be in the academy but I can accelerate that process, so let’s go for it.

“It’s not important to win, it’s important to know them and to give them an opportunity to work.”

The fan who invaded the Euro 2016 clash between Poland and Portugal to try and hug Cristiano Ronaldo has been fined €500.

Shamshir Karimi, 22, interrupted the tie in extra time when he raced onto the field and was caught by a security team when in touching distance of Ronaldo. In a Marseille courtroom, the Swiss fan spoke of how his actions were fuelled by the fact that Ronaldo is his “idol”.

However, Mr. Karimi has since been hit with a charge and also banned from returning to France in the next month due to his actions. One fan managed to get onto the field to take a selfie with Ronaldo during Portugal's 0-0 draw with Austria after the Real Madrid superstar held back security and gave his consent.

Ronaldo can become the joint-highest scorer in European Championship history if he manages to find the net in Portugal's semi-final clash against Wales on Wednesday.

:DNo holds barred! Fiery Mourinho sets tone for Manchester United tenure

    jose-mourinho_c2qf7xdz3llz1jnvkf2970957.jpg

Jose Mourinho doesn’t do quiet entrances. Since the day he thrust the door open at Chelsea proclaiming himself to be "a Special One, not one from the bottle", he has lapped up the first sign of confrontation. And the first signs suggest life at Manchester United will be conducted very much to type.

It took him barely two sentences to launch his opening assault during his introductory press conference at Old Trafford on Tuesday, and the barbs kept dropping at regular intervals.

Nobody was safe. The media talk about his record bringing through youth players was rebuffed. Claims he’d chased out Ryan Giggs were batted off. Suggestions he had something to prove were directed instead towards Arsene Wenger. But most tellingly of all he decimated the record of his predecessor and former friend Louis van Gaal.

It is a long time now since the two worked together at Barcelona in the late 1990s, with the Dutchman promoting Mourinho to right-hand man and sometime-tactician. But having walked into Manchester without the prospect of Champions League football and the task of reviving an ailing giant, the Portuguese took several pops at the man whose legacy at United was ultimately one of tedium and failure.

    sT8pN45.jpg

"I was never good at hiding behind words and hiding behind philosophies," he stated, taking a deliberate dig at Van Gaal’s favourite description of the rebuilding job he claimed to be doing in his two years in charge. "I am unhappy that we are not in the Champions League. I can’t hide that I want to chase Sir Alex’s record of Champions League match wins."Manchester United is a Champions League club, and in July 2017 instead of waiting for the play-off draw there is one place where it has to be and that is the Champions League."

He was by no means finished there, pulling apart Van Gaal’s vision of filling his squad with adaptable players, while also ripping up the Dutchman’s work in having brought through the likes of Marcus Rashford and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson during an injury crisis last season."I am a manager who likes specialists because I am clear in my model of play, not multi-functional players. You need one or two of them over the course of a season if you have a few injuries. But mainly we need specialists.

"We have five minutes. I would need 10 minutes to answer your question," he added, taking out a piece of paper after being asked about his apparent difficulties in promoting youth team players.

"You know how many players I have promoted from the academy? Forty-nine... 49! I can give you the list if you want it. Sometimes you have to bring up the players from the academy because you have no choice because you have injuries. My record of injuries is very, very low. I didn't promote players because of a need, I did it because of conviction."

His old enemy Arsene Wenger, whose Arsenal side last won the Premier League in 2004, was also dragged into the firing line when Mourinho was asked whether he had a point to prove following his abysmal run with Chelsea last season which led to him getting the boot in December.

"There are some managers who last won a title 10 years ago. Some of them the last time they won a title was never. I last won a title one year ago. So if I have something to prove, what about the others?"This was a no-holds barred press conference all right, even if he refused to be drawn just yet on the fight that awaits him across the city following Pep Guardiola’s arrival at Manchester City. He added that Ryan Giggs was "brave" for choosing to leave Old Trafford after 29 years on Saturday, but insisted: "The reality is that it is not my responsibility is that Ryan is not in the club. The job Ryan wanted was the job they gave me. That is not my decision, it is the decision of the club, the board, Mr Woodward, whoever."

For Wayne Rooney, the warning that he will be back in the forward line come August following a brief dalliance with a midfield role for United and England in recent months.

"For me he is maybe not a No.9 anymore, but for me he will never be a No.6. He will never be 50 yards from the goal. Yes, he has a great pass but I have a great pass under no pressure."

He even ran the risk of upsetting the club’s media department by all-but confirming Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s arrival from Borussia Dortmund when drawn on additional signings besides Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Eric Bailly: "Is the third player already official or not yet?" he asked press officer Karen Shotbolt. "No". "So it will be official when?", "Soon!""We identified four players, we have two or three? Is the third official?" "Two!" "Maybe three, and when we get the fourth I can breathe. We will not get the fourth on August 31, we get him before then."

Mourinho does things his own way. He wins his own way, and that is what the Manchester United fans who have been without even the faintest hope of success for the past three years will now be counting on.

"I want to forget the last three years. We cannot say we want to do better, because better is fourth but that’s not good enough. But I am 53, not 63 or 73. I have to get better myself."

Judging by this, Mourinho is back on top form. Now he just has to back up the barbs with winning football.

Santos: Wales clash is for the final, not the Ballon d'Or

Portugal coach Fernando Santos rejected the notion that a showdown between Real Madrid stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale adds an extra edge to the Euro 2016 semi-final against Wales.Ronaldo will continue his quest for a major international honour following defeats in the Euro 2004 final and the semis of the 2006 World Cup and Euro 2012.

Meanwhile, Bale has inspired Wales to a place in the last four at their first tournament appearance since the 1958 World Cup, bagging three goals in total and impressing onlookers.

The two most expensive players in football history have dominated the pre-match build-up, but Santos was reluctant to get involved in the hype.

"There is no added pressure, I think all these players have a lot of experience," he told a pre-match press conference at Stade de Lyon. "They are used to this, so there will be no added pressure."All teams are committed, they all want to make it through to the final. They have come this far so they want to reach the final. They all have this same goal.

"It's not about Cristiano or Bale. All players in all teams want to go as far as possible. We are not playing for the Ballon d'Or, we are playing for the final."

Bale's openness with the media throughout the tournament and his willingness to buy into Wales' team ethic has won the former Tottenham winger numerous plaudits.

By contrast, Ronaldo's short on-field temper and aloof image has led to accusations that he does not play his part within the Portuguese collective – claims Santos insists are wide of the mark."He's been an amazing example so far in every aspect of his game," the former Greece boss said. "When you talk about being a team player, he has been unsurpassable.

"The way he behaves on the training pitch, around the other players – he's on the same level as every single player when it comes to motivation, because they all want to make it to Paris and to win the final."This is something he's done himself."

News of Portugal winger Nani completing his transfer from Fenerbahce to Valencia broke as Santos' opposite number Chris Coleman gave his briefing earlier on Tuesday. But Santos has no concerns over the ex-Manchester United player becoming distracted on the eve of a pivotal encounter.

"When you mention Nani, this is a natural thing in football," the 61-year-old added.
"Valencia are not playing tomorrow. Nani is playing for the Portugal squad. We have not talked about Valencia. We are here to discuss Wales and Portugal."

:cool:Mourinho vows to 'take risks' at Manchester United

    3422292_heroa.jpg

Jose Mourinho insists he will take more risks than Louis van Gaal at Manchester United.

The Dutchman was criticised over United’s uninspiring playing style during his two seasons at Old Trafford but Mourinho, who has signed a three-year contract, claims he is not interested in possession-based statistics and is ready to adapt his style of play.

“The style of play, the players, they have a huge contribution in that,” Mourinho told MUTV.

“I think one of my characteristics as a manager is to adapt to what I have in hand. I’m sure, even losing, Man United fans will remember some of my teams that played and won here - Chelsea 2004, 2005, 2006, Real Madrid when we came here in the Champions League, so I feel that one of my strengths is to adapt to the players I have.

“I don’t defend that a manger should have a style of play. A manger should be open, to adapt, and to create a style adapted to the reality. And what we are trying to do is bring the players with a certain style.

“Yes we want to play different to the last season. Mr Van Gaal is absolutely a top manager, his philosophy is very clear, my philosophy is different. It’s not better, it’s different.

“I’m more vertical, I’m more intense, I like ball possession that has a way to create a chance. I don’t like ball possession just to keep statistical possession of the ball and be afraid of playing a game of transitions.

“Transitions will always come during the game, I’m not afraid of losing the ball, I’m not afraid of risk.”

Mourinho also emphasised the need to improve United as a defensive unit and says teams at Euro 2016 have tried to do the same at this summer’s tournament.
“But I have one characteristic, for example this Euro is proving that I’m right. By the defensive point of view, at the moment, everybody is trying to defend better,” he said.

“The lines are much more compact, the central area is much more occupied, you give space to the opponents down the sides, not in a central area. You compact lines in the short period of space, and these are characteristics that, in my point of view, are very, very important to a team. Defending well is very, very important.

“A football team is everything, every moment of the game, every principle, every sub-principle you have to work, and I work a lot to have my team prepared for every possible situation.”

Ferguson reveals a steward - not a scout - told Manchester United to sign Giggs

    2426622_heroa.jpg

Sir Alex Ferguson claims it was a steward who urged Manchester United to sign Ryan Giggs.

The former midfielder initially began his career at rivals Manchester City but moved to Old Trafford at the age of 14.

Giggs went on to win 13 Premier League titles, four FA Cup trophies and the Champions League on two occasions in 24 seasons at the club.

And Ferguson admits it wasn’t a scout who informed United about Giggs’ talent.

"We always had a few scouts who claimed they were the one who discovered Giggsy," the former United boss told BBC Sport.

"They probably did, but they never acted on what they saw.

"It was actually a steward who first told me it was a disgrace that this Manchester United fan was training down the road at City.

"You knew right away, the way he ran across the ground, that he was something else. He was like a Cocker Spaniel chasing a piece of silver in the wind. His feet never seemed to touch the ground and that was the start of it all."

Arsenal stars back Mertesacker & Flamini to become Prime Minister

Danny Welbeck and Laurent Koscielny reckon Per Mertesacker would be the standout candidate from Arsenal’s squad to be the new Prime Minister.

With David Cameron stepping down after the result of the EU referendum, the Prime Minister’s job is up for grabs.

Home Secretary Theresa May may be winning the race in the Conservative party, but the Arsenal players have put forward their own candidates for the best and worst choices in the squad - and it's a split vote between Mertesacker and Mathieu Flamini...

Robson-Kanu not intimidated by taking on Pepe

Wales forward Hal Robson-Kanu is "relishing" the chance to go up against Portugal's Pepe in the semi-finals of Euro 2016 - provided the defender is fit to feature in Lyon.

Recalled to the starting XI for the quarter-final against Belgium, the former Reading forward scored a superb individual goal - complete with Cruyff turn - to help Wales record a famous 3-1 win in Lille.

He could be set to do battle with Champions League winner Pepe in the last four of the tournament, so long as the Portugal player overcomes a thigh injury in time.Robson-Kanu is excited about the prospect of taking on the 33-year-old Pepe."I don't know how much he will be looking forward to playing against me," he said.

"With what I do for the team my job will be to occupy him and to effect the game in that way."He is a world-class player, he knows what he is doing. But it holds no fear and I am relishing the game.

"Portugal hold a bit of a high line and there will probably be a lot more space in behind. He will probably be hopefully seeing the back of my number a fair few times chasing after me."There will be duels all over the pitch and it is about coming out on top and hopefully we can do that."

The winner of the Wales-Portugal clash will meet either France or Germany in the final.

Galatasaray are trying to bully Sneijder out, claims agent

    wesley-sneijer-cropped_1l4khzjn7lxjn1h4x01spgov1y.jpg

Wesley Sneijder's agent has hit out at Galatasaray over the way they have treated his client, accusing the side of trying to push the midfielder out.

Galatasaray reportedly handed the 32-year-old a hefty fine - believed to be in excess of €2 million - following his 11 league yellow cards in 2015-16.
But Sneijder has no intention of accepting the punishment and is exploring legal action, according to his representative Guido Albers.

"Galatasaray are trying to bully Wesley out of the club," Albers told De Telegraaf."Of course, Wesley will not accept his punishment. It is a real shame that such a big club are stooping so low. Our lawyer has gotten in touch with FIFPro and the Turkish union."They are only doing this in an attempt to get a €7.5 million transfer fee for him."

Sneijder signed a new deal with Galatasaray until June 2018 back in October after the club told him they wanted him to play a big role in their project.

Howver, his agent feels the Turkish giants had different intentions right from the start."Wesley's contract would expire this summer, but the club were desperate to keep him here," Albers added.

"The fans love him and he would be part of the new Galatasaray. But it looks like it was all about getting a transfer fee for him."They did not want him to leave on a free. His wages should not be a problem if you look at some of the other contracts they have handed out."

Nevertheless, the former Inter star is not planning to bow to the pressure and intends to stay at Galatasaray."Sneijder will not let the club bully him out," the midfielder's representative continued.

"If Wesley leaves, it's because he wants to move. But he is happy to stay put until the end of his contract."

Mourinho wrong to return to Chelsea - Ferguson

    josemourinho-cropped_hls20zy07f4a1nwgw2dx8s7a0.jpg

Jose Mourinho made the wrong decision in returning for a second stint at Chelsea, according to Sir Alex Ferguson.Mourinho has taken over at Manchester United after leaving Stamford Bridge before Christmas last season.

The Portuguese tactician was appointed again at Chelsea in mid-2013, leading the club to a Premier League title. But it turned sour for Mourinho in London, departing in December last year after losing nine of 16 league games.

And Ferguson, a friend of the former Real Madrid and Inter coach as well as a club ambassador at United, believes Mourinho should never have returned to Chelsea.

"I thought Jose was wrong to go back to Chelsea, I really do," the legendary former United boss told Sky Sports at a charity event."I think it's always difficult going back to somewhere for a second time.

"The ability, charisma and personality, his success is high, won a European Cup twice with different clubs, won a Europa [League] with Porto, winning titles with all the teams he's managed. His record - you can't ignore that."I think Manchester United is the right kind of club for him, I really do. I think we'll do well."

United finished fifth in the league last season, but Mourinho has already added Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Eric Bailly to his squad with further signings likely.
