Low won't make rash decision on Germany future

Joachim Low says he will not make a rash decision on his Germany future following their Euro 2016 semi-final defeat to hosts France on Thursday.

Head coach Low led Germany to World Cup glory in Brazil two years ago, but they were unable to follow that up with Euros glory as an Antoine Griezmann double dumped them out in Marseille. It remains to be seen if Low will now seek a fresh challenge having fallen short in his bid to lead Die Mannschaft to a major international tournament double.

But the 56-year-old, who has a contract with the national team until 2018, insists he is set to take time to review the tournament before revealing what lies ahead for him.

"I can't predict that [my future]," Low said. "I can't even predict things from tomorrow, I won't think about that tonight."It's difficult to answer, we haven't discussed [a change in coach] beforehand. It hasn't been an issue so far, maybe tomorrow when we return, we will talk about that and then we will consider if there's anything to discuss about this tournament.

"This was a good tournament for us, we had a great energy in the side, also in the training sessions, in Evian and in the games they have shown a great team spirit.
"I haven't seen too many errors in this tournament."

Argentina's president confident Messi will not retire

    3397032_heroa.jpg

Argentina’s president Mauricio Macri is confident that Lionel Messi will play for the national team again.

In the aftermath of Argentina’s defeat to Chile in the Copa America final, Messi, who missed a penalty in the shootout, announced that he would quit playing for the national side.

Fans and former players, including Diego Maradona, have pleaded with the Barcelona forward to reverse his decision, and Macri believes that the 29-year-old will represent the country again following a telephone conversation.

"I talked to him on the phone; I'm sure he will come back," Macri told CNBC.

"He's the best in the world."

Pogba is the perfect fit for Man Utd - Ince

    paulpogba-cropped_1nd5walesabb91nuknr7ry47gu.jpg

Paul Ince states Juventus star Paul Pogba would be a "perfect fit" for Manchester United and believes the English game suits him more than the Spanish one.

The sought-after France star and Euro 2016 finalist has been heavily linked with a big-money return to United, with the club lining up a reported €120 million bid.

The 23-year-old left Old Trafford just four years ago after not renewing his contract under Alex Ferguson, going on to win four successive Serie A titles in Turin. But with new United manager Jose Mourinho reportedly keen to land the highly-rated midfielder at any cost, Ince believes he would have no trouble adapting to the Portuguese's style of play.

"Alex Ferguson would have been disappointed to have lost him at such a young age," Ince, who played for United between 1989 and 1995, told Sky Sports.

"But I think his style of football will suit the Premier League more than the Spanish league. "I remember when I first went to Inter in Serie A and I was that kind of aggressive player and every time I made a tackle I was getting booked, that was frustrating.

"So Pogba now coming into a league where it is tough, where he can show what he's all about, I think is a perfect fit for him and for Man United. "Who he plays alongside, whether it's [Michael] Carrick, [Morgan] Schneiderlin or [Bastian] Schweinsteiger – I don't know.

"But if United can get Pogba then that sends out the signal that we are really going for it this year."

OFFICIAL: Klopp signs new Liverpool deal until 2022

    3184622_heroa.jpg

Jurgen Klopp has signed a new six-year deal with Liverpool exactly nine months after being appointed as manager of the Merseyside club. The German, who was announced as Brendan Rodgers's successor on October 8 last year, has committed his future to the Reds until 2022.

His trusted assistants, Zeljko Buvac and Peter Krawietz, have also extended their contracts. The club's owners, Fenway Sports Group, initiated the negotiations after seeing enough evidence that Klopp can turn around Liverpool's fortunes.

He led the side to two finals during his debut season in English football, while resuscitating their famous atmosphere and restoring belief on the pitch, as well as in the stands.

FSG appreciate that the 49-year-old's framework for success dovetails with their strategy, and have no doubt his commitment to fine-tuning Liverpool into a great team rather than a team of great players will be rewarding.Klopp's previous contract was up in 2018, with the option of a further year, but the Reds can now count on a period of prolonged stability as the manager implements his long-term vision.

Having spent seven years in charge of Mainz, before replicating that period of service with Borussia Dortmund, Klopp is set to repeat his longevity at Anfield. In May, he revealed he would love to become part of the furniture at Liverpool, as was the case at the Opel Arena and Westfalenstadion.

"Seven years at Liverpool hopefully. For me it's the only way to work to be honest," he said."I don't feel the pressure. I cannot change. I feel opportunity. I don't think I have all the time in the world but I don't think I've ever felt doubt around me.

"If that's right I don't know, maybe I'm not sensitive, but it leaves me completely free to make decisions and completely free to get us all together."

Klopp is overseeing his first pre-season on Merseyside, which began on July 2, as the backroom team works on getting the squad in prime physical condition ahead of the 2016-17 campaign. There are nine friendlies scheduled, with the opening fixture at Tranmere on Friday."If we play our best in pre-season then I've done something completely wrong," Klopp explained.

"It's another session, it's not about beating our opponents. I don't care about how big the opponent is, we will say nothing about the situation…"Everything you do is based around physical potential and what you create in pre-season is key to that."

Klopp has acquired four new signings ahead of his first full season in the Premier League, with more incomings expected as the squad continues to be revamped.

:shocked:OFFICIAL: Bielsa resigns as Lazio boss after two days

    3357762_heroa.jpg

Marcelo Bielsa has resigned as Lazio's coach just two days after being appointed by the club, it was anounced on Friday. The Biancoceleste confirmed on Wednesday that the ex-Chile coach was due to take up the reins, releasing an official statement of his appointment.

However, in a sensational turn and after days of reports he was having doubts over a move to the Italian capital, it emerged Bielsa walked away from the job.

Lazio had confirmed the 60-year-old and his staff would be in Rome on Saturday to lead pre-season training but his arrival at Formello, Lazio's training ground, kept being postponed.

Ex-striker, Primavera coach and last term's interim boss Simone Inzaghi is set to temporarily re-assume the role of head coach in the dugout as the outfit weigh up their next options amidst the chaos.

"We acknowledge with astonishment the resignation of Marcelo Bielsa, inclusive of his collaborators, in blatant violation of the deal agreed via the contracts signed last week and lawfully deposited with the Lega and the FIGC, according to all the related procedures,” a club statement read.

“The club reserves the right to take all actions that will protect its rights, and hands the leadership of the team during the preparatory training to Simone Inzaghi.”

Early speculation has suggested Gerardo Martino's decision to step down as Argentina coach may have prompted countryman Bielsa, who previously coached the national team from 1998 to 2004, to reconsider his next move. Reports state that Lazio will take legal action against Bielsa.

Guardiola: I don't have to win the Premier League

    3220442_heroa.jpg

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has revealed that the club's owner has not made demands over winning the Premier League and Champions League during his time with the club.

Guardiola was presented to the media on Friday as he faced his first press conference as the club's new head coach, with expectations high following his huge success in his past managerial roles with Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

He told reporters at his unveiling on Friday, however, that owner Sheikh Mansour has not set any specific targets: "No [no targets set by the owner]. We saw each other three times and we just talked about what he thinks.

"We tried to meet each other, he lives in Abu-Dhabi, I'm going to live here in Manchester. But we are fully in contact by telephone, when he's here we're going to see each other.

"And no he didn't say 'you have to win Premier League or Champions League'. He told me 'do your job as best as possible, do your job like you are and after that we are going to see'. I feel the club is behind us, supporting us to reach what we need and what we are looking for."

Guardiola also denied that the City job will be his last, adding: "I don't think so.Seriously it [the offers he had to come to England before] was just this one.Always I will be grateful to this club, to the people who trust me to join this country and join the Premier League.

"Of course I think the coach sooner or later has to prove what it means to play in England. Manchester City gave me this chance and for me I was grateful for that. I will do my best to achieve what we want till the last day."

Guardiola: I'll help Sterling show how good he is

    raheem-sterling-england_djj0brlch8gz1jc4ttenbj8i2.jpg

Pep Guardiola has admitted that he is "curious" to see how he gets on working with Raheem Sterling and is confident he can help him play to a high level.

The 21-year-old received a great deal of criticism in the wake of England's last-16 elimination from Euro 2016 at the hands of Iceland, with City team-mate Joe Hart another to carry a lot of the blame.

Guardiola feels Sterling faces extra pressure because of the £49 million fee the Premier League side paid to sign him from Liverpool, but the Spaniard is confident he can help him improve as a player.

"They were criticised because they lost and when they lose, it doesn’t depend on Sterling," he said at his first press conference as City's new coach.

"I heard over the last week or 10 days what happened with Sterling. Of course, he has a problem that the money they paid for him is always in the mind of the people."But I’m curious. I’m looking forward to working with him to try to help him show again how good a player he is.

"Not just with Sterling, but with Joe Hart and the other English players."In Barcelona, the basis of the team was Catalan and Spanish players, in Bayern Munich it was Germany and I would like to work with an English basis here.

"But they’re so expensive, more than the players around the world. It’s not easy, but, it’s not just about Joe or Raheem, I will, of course, try to help them."

I came to Manchester City to prove myself - Guardiola

    pep-guardiola-manchester-city-premier-league-08072016_175igr0uwjy4a1d7gdkbfa37bj.jpg

Pep Guardiola says he has come to Manchester City to prove that his style of football can dominate in the Premier League.

The former midfielder, who agreed a deal to replace Manuel Pellegrini at the Etihad Stadium during last season, delivered three consecutive Bundesliga titles during his time with Bayern Munich.

Guardiola's success in Germany followed a glittering four-year spell as Barcelona head coach, in which he claimed four league titles, two Copas del Rey and two Champions Leagues, with his team lauded as one of the greatest club sides in football history for marrying style with success.

The 45-year-old's commitment to possession-based, attacking football has seen some critics suggest he will struggle to adapt to the physical rigours of England's top flight, but he was forthright in his confidence when addressing the media for the first time as City boss on Friday.

"That's why I'm here – to prove myself, to prove that I can do that," he said. "It's the reason I'm here. I had everything at Barcelona, the best player ever and most of the team from the academy, and Bayern, a club with a lot of experience. "This is another test. It would have been comfortable to stay where I was. We want to play as we want, not just as I want.

"I've never done Boxing Day games, I've never been to stadiums where it's windy, where the pitches are not good. So why not come here and play my style where it's windy, it's freezing? It's a personal ambition to prove myself here.

"In the end, what we want is so simple. If the opponent has the ball, take it back as soon as possible. When you have it, create as much as possible. That's my target for my next life here in Manchester.

"Winning these games is not easy. Managers with more experience in England than me have talked about that. Maybe that's the challenge – be more constant in our game. We want to win as many titles as possible but it's better to live with that pressure, rather than to say: 'it's okay, winning is okay'. "Maybe we won't be able to win every day, but we're going to try."

City have been heavily linked with a bid for Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci, as Guardiola sets about further adding to his squad following the arrivals Ilkay Gundogan, Nolito and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Guardiola would not be drawn on any potential transfer business but suggested that further moves in the market are in the offing, once he has further assessed his squad.

"All clubs try to get the best squad possible," he said. "Maybe this is not the right place to explain about new players, out of respect for players and other clubs. But I know how good the journalists in England are. I want to try to move the squad a little bit.

"My responsibility is to do everything for the players. The other business for the club is great, huge. I'm just focused on my players, on what we have to do on the pitch.

"I just arrived 10 days ago, I need time, but we're going to try to do our best for our people, especially for our players to be happy and for our fans to be proud."

Sakho doping case dismissed by UEFA

    sakho-cropped_11jwlwgqja0bo1h30cxncf1ltf.jpg

Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho will not face further punishment after failing a drugs test following his club's Europa League clash with Manchester United in March. The 26-year-old Sakho was handed a 30-day provisional suspension by UEFA on April 28 after it emerged he had tested positive.

UEFA's Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) had already opted against extending the 30-day ban when it expired and has now dismissed the case altogether.

"The independent UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) met in Paris and has reached a decision relating to the proceedings instigated against Liverpool player Mamadou Sakho, following the UEFA Europa League round of 16 second-leg match between Manchester United FC and Liverpool FC (1-1), played on 17 March 2016," an official statement reads.

"The proceedings against Mr. Sakho related to a violation of the UEFA Anti-Doping Regulations after the player failed a doping test at the above-mentioned match."Following a hearing with the lawyers of the player and experts of the WADA-accredited laboratories on this case, the CEDB has decided to dismiss the case."

The initial ban, which the centre-back himself had requested, cost Sakho a place in France's Euro 2016 squad, as well as the chance to play in Liverpool's final eight games of the season, which included the Europa League semi-finals and final.

I am French before everything - Matuidi refuses to discuss United

France midfielder Blaise Matuidi refused to discuss reports linking him with a move to Manchester United as the host nation get ready for Sunday's final at Euro 2016.

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Matuidi has been a mainstay of Didier Deschamps' midfield during the competition and helped Les Bleus to a 2-0 win over world champions Germany in Marseille with a typically committed display.

Before the match, there was increased speculation that new United boss Jose Mourinho is keen to add Matuidi to an impressive haul of close season signings that already includes Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.Asked whether it was a compliment to be in Mourinho's thoughts, Matuidi refused to further fan the flames during a media briefing at France's Clairefontaine training base.

"I am French before everything. It is not the time for that question. I am 100 per cent for the Euro and concentrating on it," he said. "I am living in an exceptional moment that perhaps we will not live again in our lives. I am living it very proudly.

"I am still under contract with PSG and it stops there."Matuidi insists he will try to retain an air of normality within his pre-match preparations for the showpiece match against Portugal at the Stade de France, but 29-year-old concedes there are already a few nerves.

"I've never known any time like this before, the final of the Euro," he said. "For other matches [preparation] doesn't change. It's always the same thing."In between the workouts, the meals and the naps, its in the head. I try to have as little stress as possible.

"There is a knot in my stomach. It's like that but once we arrive at the stadium we forget all of that and we say that we have to play in a fighting way to obtain the result that we want."

He added: "We are going to be ready because Sunday is going to be the match of our lives. We are going to give everything."

Wales boss Coleman to walk away after 2018 World Cup campaign

Chris Coleman has announced he will quit as Wales boss after the 2018 World Cup campaign. The 46-year-old has saw his stock rise dramatically after guiding the Dragons to the Euro 2016 semi-finals this summer.

And Coleman, who took over the Wales reins in 2012, has now confirmed he has no intention of staying on when his contract runs out in two years' time, whether the nation qualify for the next World Cup or not. "I am sure this will be my last campaign whether we qualify or not," said Coleman.

"That will be six or seven years in the job, which is a long time. So I think this will be my last hit, at it so I will give it my best shot, but I would not consider going anywhere else. I want to see this through."There's success in this team, I think, because they're at a good age. But I'll certainly give everything I've got in this next campaign. I'll make sure they do."

Coleman, whose team kick-off their World Cup qualifying campaign against Moldova on September 5, added: "If they [FAW] wanted to talk to me about another contract I would be cashing in a bit, wouldn't I? Same as if I jumped ship and went somewhere else because we had done well at a tournament."I would not feel right. I have signed a good contract and I am looking forward to the campaign."

Arsenal step up chase for striker ahead of new season

    alexandre-lacazette-sergi-darder-lyon-monaco-ligue-1-07052016_4n7le1b921le111q7g23ecs9x.jpg

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger remains determined to a sign a striker this summer, with talks for Alexandre Lacazette and Alvaro Morata ongoing.

Wenger was said to be disappointed when Jamie Vardy rejected the opportunity to join the Gunners after his release clause was activated but has since turned his attention to Lyon striker Lacazette and Real Madrid man Morata.

Olivier Giroud, who held talks with Wenger over his future before the start of Euro 2016, will go into next season as the club's first-choice striker and the Frenchman's main aim during the summer transfer window is to find a player who can compete with the 29-year-old.

Italy star Morata rejoined Real Madrid from Juventus a month ago and is expected to be sold on for profit during the next few weeks. Chelsea remain the favourites for his signature but Arsenal are monitoring the situation closely after Madrid set their asking price at €50m.

Elsewhere, Wolfsburg full-back Ricardo Rodriguez has been looked at as a potential defensive acquisition after impressing for Switzerland at Euro 2016. Wenger is keen to line up long-term replacements for Nacho Monreal and Per Mertesacker, who are both now in their 30s.

The bulk of Arsenal's first-team squad returned to training earlier this week ahead of the new Premier League season. Wenger's side will travel to the USA, Sweden and Norway before their league opener against Liverpool on August 13.

Klinsmann is in talks with England over becoming their next manager - Bierhoff

Germany general manager Oliver Bierhoff claims close friend and United States boss Jurgen Klinsmann is in talks with the Football Association over becoming the next England boss.England are on the hunt for a new manager after Roy Hodgson resigned following the country's embarrassing last-16 exit to Iceland at Euro 2016.

Former Germany coach Klinsmann - who has led United States since 2011 - was immediately linked to the post alongside the likes of Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger and Sunderland's Sam Allardyce.

Ex-England international Jamie Carragher has recently talked up Klinsmann, who guided USA to the semi-finals of the Copa America Centenario on home soil.

Klinsmann has also been credited for laying the foundations for Germany's World Cup triumph in 2014, after his two-year spell in charge of his home nation from 2004 to 2006.And Bierhoff believes ex-Tottenham striker Klinsmann, 51, would be a good choice for England.

"It's not like putting a hand on the shoulder and everything happens," said Bierhoff. "A lot of things need to come together."When we failed at Euro 2000 we invested a lot in the infrastructure and the education of young players and coaches, so now we have a lot of talented players and the Bundesliga is investing in young players.

"Perhaps it is an advantage that good players go to England and other countries, so our clubs have to bring other players through. But since the arrival of Jurgen Klinsmann – who I think is in discussions with England – we have also given the national team a certain pride, atmosphere and organisation. The success of the story is the high quality but also the good organisation and good atmosphere we have in the group."

Bierhoff added: "He would be a good fit. We started in 2004 together and he's not always, how can I say, nice to handle because he wants to change [things]. But he brings motivation.

"He has the courage to make difficult decisions and, perhaps, you need something like this."
