Lets assume that SLT is redirecting DNS or HTTP traffic.
if this is the case, what exactly are you two going to do about it ? switch ISP ? good luck with that as all the other ISPs does the same thing. This is a necessity as they have to comply with govt. regulations on blocking certain content.

if you're that paranoid, switch to TOR and use a TOR browser and use an untraceable search engine such as duckduckgo.
Cause everything else gets logged somewhere. A standard google search is anyway tracked. Gmail & other webmail services are getting tracked.
IF this is just an exercise in figuring out exactly what SLT is doing, then you've already given an explanation that is indeed the most likely method that they use. Namely HTTP redirecting. You can easily test this by using a full tunnel VPN.
If its DNS redirecting that you suspect, then this too you can easily test via a full tunnel VPN and a standard dig query.
So why waste sleep over this ?
