That just proves Toyota Hiluxes of that era are reliable it doesn't make prematurely failing CVTs and AC compressors of latest Toyota Allions, Axios and Premios reliable now does it?

You were talking abt brands here nh?just wanted to weigh in and support toyota.. Bt compare them wth hondas and similar jdms...they all carry some sort of unique problems bt considring the amount and damage caused by the failures they are pretty bullet proof aah? Cvt issue is due to lack of maintainence in SL....last bt not least they tend to hold their resale value aah? Isnt it a clear indication of reliability.... ps im done

Said im done bt we also owned a 2008 vitz few yrs ago...when we baught it had done over 1lkh..bt we used it fr over 2 yrs done around 50000kms no gear box issues...so be it

Nope Toyota CVT eka wenas

The Toyota CVT gearbox incorporates a planetary gear, and not the cone and belt type as used by Nissan.

It depends machan. Depends on usage patterns, stop and go traffic and how good the previous Japanese owner maintained it. One of my friends had a 0 milage Allion ran for 186000 KMs before replacing the gear box. He changed CVT even before 40K recommended interval but car ran a lot. Cost nearly 2 laks for entire replacement for second hand CVT box+labour.

For the record I'm changing my Vitz's CVT tomorrow.

Still i think durability of cvts tag along with freequant maintainance...fr sure they are not durable (bt reliable) as old 4 speed automatics....last month axio hybrid clocked 40000kms next day got a booking at wathathala toyota and did a full srvice(gear box oil changed too) and checkup.
