I don't see older people working in the software industry. In our office of 350+ ppl, there is no one above 43+.

    Where have others gone?

When engineers become older, the company expels them or he feels he cannot work there and simply quits?

With the current rat race of technology there's no way a married 40+ person with childern can keep up with the technologies we have. theres a vast domain of technologies in almost every field in IT. have it web designing js updates like every single day. application engineering there are millions of tools to learn. older people need to update their knowledge to new ones. within next couple of years there wont be any virtualization but everything will be cloud.

so young blood is profitable for a company. young ones cant demand a higher salary with compared to 40+ experienced ones where they would demand a higher salary. young ones have time to update their technologies.

i hope you get the idea.

People took to soft ware engineering in the early 80s. 45 is about the prime age of that set. That is why you do not find people in 50s 60s are not there

    I don't have a retirement plan yet. I don't even have savings :D
Can we be that successful with stockmarket?

Most are in same group as you. we need to plan ahead. Cant rely on EPF/ETF cos by the time we reach 55, stupid governments will have spend all our EPF funds. Then they will increase retirement age to 60 ... then 65 likewise in order to not to pay. So plan ahead.. invest in a savings plan, retirement fund or invest in other properties.
Stock market? to me its a bit of a gamble, I wont put all my money on that.
